The MENTOR Initiative is an international NGO providing a humanitarian and healthcare aid to the northern areas of Syria in order to help them reduce the suffering of leishmaniasis disease through medical and prevention programs.

Post description:

 

The MENTOR Initiative Deputy Medical Coordinator will assist the Medical Coordinator based in Gaziantep in the delivery of leishmaniasis case management’s activities in Syria. He/she will be required to conduct field visits to the field programme in Syria for health needs assessments, supervision, trainings and coordination. The incumbent of this position should have technical knowledge/experience of lab quality assurance and has extensive experience of organizing plus facilitation of health related trainings to health workers.

 

Mission and principal activities:

 

The Deputy Medical Coordinator will be based at Mentor’s office in Gaziantep and requires to spend 40% of his/her time in field in Aleppo, Afrin, Idleb, Hama and Al Hassaka and 60% in office. He/she will directly report medical coordinator (national position).

 

This position will assist the medical coordinator in:

  • Works closely and under the supervision of medical coordinator.
  • Ensure the delivery of leishmaniasis medical program activities according to project work plan.
  • Draft weekly, monthly and quarterly activities work plans and execute without/less supervision by the medical coordinator.
  • Under the supervision of the medical coordinator, carry out training needs assessments, identify, and map various training needs.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate and conduct Leishmaniasis case management, laboratory (microscopy, Rapid Diagnostic Tests) and on the job trainings to heath care providers in the project areas.
  • Assess quality of the leishmaniasis microscopy and prepare a clear and comprehensive quality assurance plan with clear and achievable deadline.
  • Develop and implement post trainings follow up work plans.
  • Plan and conduct monthly supportive supervision visits to field project areas and make recommendations and find solution to issues the issues identified.
  • Ensure all supported health facilities receive and have enough RDTs, Lab consumables, registration materials in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Calculate and forecast the average consumption essential for diagnosis and treatment Leishmaniasis case management.
  • Collect, collate, analyze the information and data for biweekly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensure that effective partnerships are developed and maintained with appropriate local health facility teams, community committees, health associations, and authorities to ensure their co-operation with medical program activities and uptake of leishmaniasis diagnostic and treatment services.
  • Works with in close collaboration with Mentor’s IEC, M&E, data, logistics, finance and HR departments.
  • Assist and contribute to proposals writing during the work with Mentor.
  • Actively participate project review meetings and positively contribute to project planning.
  • Assist in to identify gaps in the staff needs and recruiting staff necessary for project activities. Supervise and mentor the field medical program
  • Cover the responsibilities, from time to time, in absence of medical coordinator.
  • Represent Mentor at different forum as request.
  • Maintain MoU documents and update in collaboration and coordination with partners.
  • Any other task assigned by the medical coordinator/technical lead.

 

Requirements:

Essential

  • Qualification: A doctor (medical, laboratory or equivalent)
  • Experience: At least 1-year experience of managing primary health care or similar project. Preference will be given to candidates having got experience/skills in quality assurance programmes.
  • Willing and has ability to visit field sites in Aleppo, Afrin, Idleb, Hama and Al-Hassaka.
  • Has valid documents to stay in Turkey.
  • Has clear communication skills and fluent in Arabic and English.

Desirable

  • Has knowledge of parasitic and other diseases transmitted by sandflies, mosquitoes, rodents and dogs etc.
  • Work experience in similar capacity with humanitarian organizations.
  • Reading, writing and speaking Turkish language.
  • Has experience of collaboration/coordination/liaison with local councils, national NGOs.
