Functionally:  Project Coordinator

Main purpose:

In the context of the starting up and consolidation of a centre for rehabilitation of trauma for migrants in Istanbul and in collaboration with the different professionals, ensures proper and accurate translation acting as a mediator through demonstrating cultural and cross-cultural sensitivity.

Accountabilities:

·       Works closely with all the team, to deliver complete and accurate translation and interpretation of a broad range of subjects.

·       Facilitates communication between the beneficiaries and the professional engaged in the consultation using the most appropriate language.  

·       Facilitates communication through interpretation during reception, group activities and phone calls.

·       Translatewritten texts including documents, short stories etc.

·       Assiststhe team in understanding the cultural background of patients consulted.

·       Assiststhe team with terminology related to the professional needs.

·       Assistsin translating training and IEC materials in given languages.

·       Accompaniesthe patient to external services for referral, when required.

·       Provides inputs and shares observation duringcase discussion with professionals when required

·       Attends supervision and training sessions to reflect ontheir practises and develop capacity

REQUIREMENTS

Education:          University education (or equivalent), preferably in department offoreign

                          language/linguisticsis an asset.

Languages:       Excellent Farsi language skills, bothwritten and verbal is essential

Good command of Turkish is essential

Good command of Englishis essential

Ability to understanddifferent dialects is an asset

Experience:        Desirableworking experience with specific vulnerable groups

                           Experience in working in team, preferably innon-governmental organizations (NGOs) 

                           Experience in mentalhealth projects as translators/interpreters is a distinctive asset
