Project Associate - UN Volunteer Vacancy to serve in UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub

Organizational Context/Project:

The UNDP RBEC Regional Programme Document for Europe and the CIS (RPD for ECIS) 2018-2021 was approved by the Executive Board in January 2018. One of the outputs of the regional Program highlight the need to advance new development partnerships for the 2030 Agenda, by creating an “Enabling environment strengthened through diverse partnerships to expand opportunities for public and private sector, including alternative financing, for achievement of the SDGs”, including through support to new and emerging development cooperation providers (Output 2.3).

As part of UNDP’s efforts to enhance strategic positioning and partnership profile globally, including in countries of Europe and the CIS, UNDP seeks to catalyze action that will help governments take advantage of multilateral funding for development and lead to new and innovative partnerships, including with International Financial Institutions (IFIs), private sector, foundations and the new and emerging donor governments.

The global Partnership Framework Agreement (PFA), signed in 2011 reflects the deepening partnership between UNDP and Turkey at the global and regional level. In this connection, UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub designed a Regional Program that helps transfer Turkey’s development experience to other developing countries through the UNDP Country Offices, and in partnership with TIKA, as an instrument to facilitate cooperation between Turkey and UNDP in third countries. Upon completion of Phase 1 of this programme, Phase 2 of the same project was approved in July 2018 building on the lessons learned and experiences accumulated in Phase 1.

The aims of the program are to strengthen Turkey’s contribution to global development through implementation of specific projects in UNDP program countries and to enhance Turkey’s role as a knowledge hub that forges South-South, triangular and other forms of cooperation. It is expected that the program will further contribute to Turkey’s development cooperation partnership with UNDP as a source of experience for the countries in the region and beyond.

UNV

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development. Volunteerism benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer by strengthening trust, solidarity and reciprocity among citizens, and by purposefully creating opportunities for participation. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including experienced UNV volunteers, throughout the world. UNV embraces volunteerism as universal and inclusive, and recognizes volunteerism in its diversity, as well as the values that sustain it: free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity.
