ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key relationships:

Key relationships: Grants, IM and MEAL, safety and security, advisory, projects Departments, field information officer, and field office managers.

General objective of the position:
The Advocacy & Communication Officer is responsible for working with advocacy and communications staff in other SAMS country offices and headquarters to influence policies to improve Syrians access to their social, economic and cultural rights and services, raise SAMS’ profile, and help SAMS Advocacy department to provide reliability and dependability.

 Main tasks and responsibilities:

Advocacy and Communication

  • Follow up with all advocacy project activities (e.g. DRL, and others)
  • Coordination among various departments (programs, advocacy, and information), and consistency in messaging.
  • Coordinate with programs departments (e.g. Grants, projects, Information, Security) regarding updates.
  • Coordinate with Syria field officers and field doctors regarding updates.
  • Supporting communications and organization events, including communication components.
  • Track humanitarian community wide reports and policy briefs and provide summary reports to advocacy staff from SAMS.
  • In coordination with the Senior advocacy and communication officer, to develop and follow up with an operational plan under the SAMS strategic plan
  • Provide a weekly report about advocacy efforts and humanitarian situation.
  • Provide monthly report tracking the advocacy efforts and achievements according to the departments operational plan
  • Drafting any advocacy product according to the operational plan, such as: press statements, briefing note, case study, op-ed. etc...

Representation

  • Represent SAMS in coalition and working group meetings when it needed, including:
    • Advocacy Working Group
    • Humanitarian Coordination Meeting (UNOCHA and other UN organizations)
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key policy makers and stakeholders.

  • Ensure effective internal communications.

THE CANDIDATE’S REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory Qualifications required

  • University degree in English Literature, Journalism, Law, Human Rights and Public Relations, or any other related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in advocacy, media, partnership, public relation, or project management or program field.

Languages

  • Advanced written and spoken in Arabic
  • Upper-Intermediate written and spoken English

CONTRACT CONDITIONS

The salary will be defined regarding the SAMS Turkey Office salary scale on-going.
