Save the Children International Türkiye Country Office is looking for candidates to apply to its Programme Operations emergency roster!

The purpose of this pipeline post is to identify ready to deploy human resources under Programme Operations department for our emergency response for recent earthquake disaster.

On Monday 06/02/2023 at 4:17 am (0117 GMT) a major earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck southern Türkiye and north-western Syria, with its center in Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaras provice. There has been more that 312 afterschocks, with the most severe one being of 7.6 magnitude in Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras at 1:24 pm (1024 GMT) on the same day. The causalities are increasing every hour. In Türkiye, at least 3.419 people lost their lives, 20.534 are injured and 5775 buildings collapsed in ten cities. In neighbouring Syria, 1.444 people lost their lives and 3.500 injured so far, mostly in the regions of Aleppo, Hama, Latakia and Tartus, according to the government. The casualties are expected to rise over the coming week.

Facilities including intensive care units of hospitals have been destroyed. Electricity is not existent in Kahramanmaraş, Malatya. There has been an explosion in the natural gas transmission line and a subsequential fire in Hatay. While natural gas cannot be supplied to two regions in Hatay, in some districts of Gaziantep the gas flow has been interrupted as a precaution. There are 30 damaged substations. Kahramanmaraş’s city centre and some districts of Osmaniye and Malatya cannot be supplied with electricity. There are numerous severe road collapses, which can lead to disruptions in the access of aid. Four airports are closed down due to damage. The weather conditions in the region are cold and snowy with significant temperature drops at night.

Roles under this pipeline will be responsible for providing effective support and co-ordination to the Program Operations Department with the full range of emergency program implementation processes, including needs assessments, case management and individual support, cash/voucher and NFI distribution, field visit and coordination, PSS activity implementation, liaising with stakeholders and partnership management, delivery of training and project cycle management. The position holders will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of Operation initiatives. Roles will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with the policies and procedures of these core responsibilities and implementing best practices aligned with the organizational culture.

Note: Role holders will be expected to work with varying working hours and outside of their normal role profiles occasionally. They may also be expected to travel field locations as necessary.

In order to be successful you will bring/have: 

  • Education to MBA/MSc level in relevant fields or equivalent field experience.
  • Demonstrated experience skills in program planning, and all aspects of project management.
  • Inter-personal skills to influence and guide staff and partners in identifying programming opportunities and resolving programme challenges.
  • Strong communication (written and spoken), and interpersonal skills in English and Turkish, with experience in working with multicultural teams
  • Ability to build relationships quickly with a wide variety of people, both internally and externally
  • Inter-personal skills to influence and guide staff and partners in identifying programming opportunities and resolving programme challenges.
  • Demonstrated excellent skills in planning, coordination, and reporting skills, with the ability to organise a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities;
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience in promoting children’s rights and gender, including participation in programming, design, implementation and evaluation.
  • Ability to adapt to different, often stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
  • Strong command of MS Office applications (i.e. Word, advanced Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Teams)
  • Strong communication (written and spoken), and interpersonal skills in Arabic, with experience in working with multicultural teams will be an asset

 

Position holder will be based in Istanbul, Hatay or Gaziantep, therefore legal right to work in Turkey is necessary at the time of application. Application will be evaluated on a rolling basis.
