CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

As part of these responsibilities the post holder will support the establishment of child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis. The post holder should report and respond to interventions as determined by position related responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of the project manager and the overall guidance of the operations manager and Child Protection/Mental Health and Psycho-social Support (MHPSS) Technical Advisor, the Child Protection Officer (CPO) will support the implementation of the project, including design and facilitation of activities and related coordination.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Facilitate workshops with school staff, children, youth and parents to raise awareness on bullying at school (face to face and cyber bullying) and to develop relevant solutions to reduce bullying cases.
  • Lead on logistical preparation of these workshops and any project related activities, including procurement, contacting beneficiaries, distribution, online workshops and administrative tasks.
  • Support in the design of the workshops with children and teachers and parents, including material development.
  • Support in the design and the roll-out of the board game and digital solution, while ensuring input from children, parents and teachers.
  • Track the attendance of participants and ensure timely provision of data, information.
  • Inform the project manager and technical advisors about the cases that need referral to other services.
  • Support any other project related activity ensuring high quality programming, and research and meetings with teachers.
  • Provide PSS sessions for children when needed.  
  • Ensure that teachers are trained on participatory approaches, child safeguarding (CSG) and the minimum standards of participation while conducting project related activities with children & running workshops.
  • Ensure that the CSG policy is implemented throughout the project activities.
  • Ensure that the relevant quality benchmarks are applied and that activities are following the available quality standards.
  • Keep a track record of the project activities and ensure that their timelines are followed.
  • Identify and refer cases with the support of the project manager and technical advisors that require specialized mental health or psychosocial support to appropriate facilities.
  • Report back on a weekly basis to the project manager.
  • Produce timely reports for internal use on the activities in each location, highlighting challenges, best practices and lessons learnt,
  • Support in writing quarterly and final donor reports.
  • Support in the design and the usage of any monitoring and evaluation (MEAL) tool that will be required to assure quality and monitor the project implementation such as quality benchmarks, complaints and response mechanisms, and others
  • Ensure that data is accurately collected on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Support in translation from Turkish to English and vice versa when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop Save the Children programs. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Turkish nationality is a requirement for this position
  • At least one year of experience in child protection (CP) project implementation
  • Experience in facilitation of workshops and engaging in direct contact with children and caregivers, from different nationalities
  • Technical skills in supporting psychosocial support projects with an experience on applying participatory approaches
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with children
  • Ability to lead groups and work well in a team setting
  • Positive and professional attitude
  • Clear understanding of gender issues, needs and ability of children with disabilities
  • Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in the event of major emergencies
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Turkish
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Comfortable with high levels of ambiguity and able to take decisions independently in fluid context.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding.

 

Desired:

  • Experience with refugee/marginalized communities
  • Competence in written and spoken Arabic
  • Background in social work, psychology, psychological counselling, or any similar experiences
  • Knowledge of bullying projects implementation would be an added value
