ABOUT ICMC

The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) is an international non-governmental organization, whose mission is to protect and serve uprooted people, including refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced people, victims of human trafficking, and migrants - regardless of faith, race, ethnicity, or nationality. In collaboration with governmental and non-governmental partners, and through a worldwide network of members, ICMC implements and advocates for right-based policies and sustainable solutions to address global migration challenges. ICMC’s operations are aimed to respond to the needs of vulnerable individuals and communities, and focus on protection, humanitarian assistance, resettlement, migration and development.

For four decades, ICMC has partnered with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration to conduct refugee resettlement. Currently ICMC operates under a cooperative agreement with the Department of State (DOS), as a Resettlement Support Centre (RSC) and under a contract with European Asylum Support Office (EUAA) to prepare eligible refugee for resettlement to US and European Union Member States. As part of this service, we work with several thousands of refugees and their families each year and take them through each stage of processing that is required for resettlement to the U.S.A. ICMC also has a sub-office in Beirut, Lebanon.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Contract Staff Operations Lead (CSOL) will support Contract Staff Operations Coordinator in the management of interpretation and translation services of ICMC’s RSC TuME and RSF, and help lead a large team of interpreters/translators. The incumbent will work in coordination with the other members of the HR Unit and the Department of HR and Administration and in cooperation with the other ICMC units and departments, participating in projects and tasks pertaining to interpreters/translators. S/he will give and help give training in interpreting and translation, in line with ICMC’s code of conduct and interpreter code of ethics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Contract Staff Operations Coordinator in the management of interpretation and translation services of ICMC’s RSC TuME and RSF as necessary.
  • Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management of interpreters/translators in line with the applicable policies and procedures.
  • Provide interpretation and translation services (including proofreading and editing) when necessary (for example, for high profile cases, when urgent documents, or as a backup) in either Arabic-English-Turkish or Farsi-English-Turkish.
  • Participate in the design, development, and delivery of trainings on interpreting and translation and contribute to the professional development of ICMC interpreters and translators, in accordance with the guidance we receive from our donors and our policies developed locally or set by HQ.
  • Work collaboratively with ICMC departments/units in the identification of the training needs of the interpreters and language needs of the refugee applicants and help develop appropriate solutions.
  • Help ensure that ICMC’s interpretation and translation services are both in line with the international standards and in compliance with the requirements of ICMC donors.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the HR Supervisor and Head of HR and Administration.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Interpretation and Translation, Linguistics, Languages and Literature, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least five years of experience as an interpreter and/or translator is ideal. Experience in interpreting for asylum seeker and/or refugee interviews is desirable.
  • Excellent interpretation and translation skills in either Arabic-English or Farsi-English is essential. A working knowledge of Turkish is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Availability to travel (in-country and abroad).
  • Conduct work with the highest level of personal and professional integrity. Must comply with and actively promote ICMC's zero tolerance policy with regard to sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, abuse of power, fraud and corruption in all of its activities and responsibilities.

  • Good command of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in staff management / learning management software.
