Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Economic Recovery Assistant - BDS

 

About the Job

 

This role involves the support to the BDS officer in the implementation of business development activities, including Intensive procurement initiation and coordinating day-to-day operations of the business development activities.

 

Scope of this component: Entrepreneurship capacity building, business formation, mentorship assistance, small business grants MSMEs development, private sector networking activities, capacity development for Turkish & Syrian businesses, and business formalization support.

Geographic scope: Kahramanmaraş and Hatay

This role has a field office focus, kahramanmaraş and Hatay, and ensures compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines within the country's operation. In addition, the role provides support to area operations and performs field activities.

Location: BDS assistant will be based in Kahramanmaraş office with frequent visits to Antakya.

Main responsibilities

General Programming & operations (80%)

 

  • Support the BDS officer with the implementation of projects' activities and goals.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day conducted activities by accredited service providers and ensuring the tools and SoPs are followed during the implementation.
  • Support the BDS officer with business formation processes and procurement initiation of the in-kind assistance for the selected entrepreneurs
  • Support the BDS officer with planning various workshops/networking events/webinars/inspirational talks for the entrepreneurs by collaborating with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist the BDS officer with preparing Weekly activity reports and plans.
  • Analyze at all times the changing needs amongst Syrians to ensure the relevance of DRC activities based on changing conditions.
  • Maintain good communication with business development beneficiaries from both host and Syrian communities.
  • BDS assistants will have a vital role in collecting, analyzing, and submitting the list of potential candidates for the BDS.
  • The BDS assistant will support the BDS officer with overseeing the business formalization process and ensure the existed business establishing regulations are followed.
  • The BDS assistant will be responsible for preparing the attendance sheet, inviting beneficiaries to BDS activities, and following up on the ongoing training.
  • The BDS assistant will support the grant selection committee and play a focal point role between them and the nominated beneficiaries. As well as he/she will be part of the selection committee.
  • The BDS assistant will facilitate the communication between the supply chain department and the selected beneficiaries during the procurement process. He/She will be responsible for the items' distribution process with the support of the SC department.

 

Coordination (10%)

 

  • Liaise and coordinate with relevant service providers to provide skills training and day-to-day activity implementation.
  • Support BDS officer in liaising and coordination with relevant stakeholders to organize outreach activities such as business networking events and Private Sector Engagement Meetings.

 

Monitoring & Evaluation (10%)

 

  • Participate in the internal evaluation of the program.
  • Support the BDC officer to do program quality/performance monitoring of all the trainings.
  • Ensure close coordination with MEAL department regarding monitoring and evaluation activities and coordination between DRC MEAL Department and implementing partner.

 

About you

 

To be successful in this role, you must have Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, economic development studies, social science or another relevant field

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required experience and competencies

  • Minimum 2 years of practical experience in economic recovery/livelihood sector working for a NGO.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, economic development studies, or other relevant field
  • Experience in MSME development, business development services, business mentoring, and coaching.
  • An understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey and the region
  • An understanding of the context for MSMEs and entrepreneurs, including business formalization, available support schemes etc.
  • Experience with coordinating partnerships with local organizations
  • Experience engaging with the private sector
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Fluency in Arabic and Turkish; Good English speaking and writing skills is a strong asset.

We offer

Contract length: 5 Months (renewable dependent on both funding and performance)

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals.
