Advertisement for Language Teaching Consultancy Service

1. Title and Type of contract

These ToR are for Turkish/Arabic/English Language Teacher(s) that will be contracted as consultant(s) for a specific period of time for teaching to our Turkish and Arabic speaking staff. We may contract more than one consultant as per language teaching skills and experience of applicants.

2. Background

SCI NWS area office currently has 25 staff and is operating fully through implementing partners. Language and communication skills of our staff are critical for the success of our overall programmes due to varying language capacity of our partners. It is therefore an identified priority to strengthen the general communication and language skills of all NWS staff. SCI is seeking to contract a teacher or teachers with extensive and proven experience in teaching English, Turkish and Arabic to professionals/adults.

3. Scope of Work

The language trainings will be offered to the current staff as well as those that will join to SCI in the future as per requirements set in their develop to perform evaluations. It is envisaged that the staff will be taking individual lessons, however if there are more than one staff in the same language level there can be group lessons or practice sessions organized as per demand by course attendees. In the initial phase of this consultancy, it is expected that the teacher(s) conduct individual assessments to determine the level of each staff member and take full responsibility for:

  • Developing tailored training courses for each individual (and group if applicable);
  • Being available at least 10 hours weekly for booking of communication, writing and presentation skills lessons in language of expertise;
  • Evaluating the progress of individual staff on a quarterly basis to measure progress, identify barriers to learning and recommend action to overcome barriers;
  • Identify appropriate learning tools for individuals and groups and mentor staff for their use;
  • Identify useful online resources and courses for each individual and group and mentor staff in their use;
  • Identify and share course material and literature;
  • Consistently keep a record of participation of individual staff members and consult SCI HR department in the case of lack of staff commitment;
  • Ensure that the lessons are planned and delivered in a highly participative and interactive manner and responsive to the request and suggestions of the students;
  • Integrate new staff members as they join to the team or language needs are identified in their D2P goals;
  • Organize language proficiency tests at the beginning and end of the course and verify satisfactory achievement of the trainees;
  • Other related tasks based on need and agreement;

4. Expected Outputs

  • Arabic, Turkish, English language level assessment of each staff;
  • Course program and materials identified for individuals and groups;
  • Supporting trainees with learning software and course literature identified;
  • Being available 10 hours per week for booking of language lessons.
  • Quarterly individual evaluation reports for each trainee with recommendations

 

5. Institutional Arrangement

a)  The course program is to be developed in close coordination and consultation with the SCI HR department;

b)  The lessons are to be delivered in SCI offices or online as per below initially set schedule. The teacher is expected to be flexible and when needed deliver the lessons on a different day or time to adjust to the operational needs and priorities of the SCI. SCI shall inform the teacher of such changes minimum 48 hours in advance. Trainees and teacher can also agree to conduct sessions outside of the set schedule after mutual agreement, however total number of delivered hours cannot be more than 10 hours per week.

c)  The teacher is responsible for making all logistical arrangements for delivery of the lessons and in close coordination with the SCI, particularly HR & Admin departments;

d)  The teacher is responsible to provide all relevant course materials, copying of such materials can be done at SCI offices with support of SCI Admin department.

6. Duration of the Work

The teacher(s) will be engaged on a consultancy contract for an initial period of 6 months with possibility for extension based on need, performance and SCI satisfaction. The teacher(s) will be contracted as a consultant by SCI and both parties maintain the right to end the contract at any point and with one month’s notice provided.

7. Duty Station

The sessions are to be delivered in Antakya/Hatay, at the offices of the SCI when possible. If there are difficulties to physically meet, lessons can also be conducted online.

8. Qualifications of the Successful Contractor

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in teaching any of Arabic/English/Turkish languages (it is desired for consultant to be able to conduct lessons in multiple languages);
  • Studies or experience in teaching, adult education, or related careers
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken English is a strong asset;
  • If teacher is not able to teach in multiple languages it is desired to have at least basic understanding of other languages mentioned above
  • Strong professional communication and inter-personal skills and able to transfer knowledge to the SCI staff;
  • Demonstrated planning and time management skills
  • Flexibility and ability to adjust to changing circumstances and needs.

 

9. Financial Remuneration

The financial remuneration is subject to negotiation based on the qualifications of the candidates.

10. Application

The interested candidates are invited to submit their technical and financial proposals for this assignment. The technical proposal shall include:

  • The CV of the candidate;
  • A proposed methodology for how the course program will be developed, how the lessons will be planned and delivered and which specific course material and software (if any) will be used;
  • A work plan illustrating all steps that the candidate will take to carry out the course
  • Certification or documentation indicating applicant’s teaching skills in language they have the experience on;
  • Any other information that the Consultant finds relevant.

The financial proposal shall indicate the total amount required for covering all aspects of the course broken down into the following categories:

  • Teacher fees presented as hourly rate in USD;
  • Any costs required for relevant course material or software (if any);
  • Course stationaries;
  • Any other cost that the Consultant finds relevant.
