Organization: Small Projects Istanbul 

Position: Finance Officer

Commitment: Full time 5d/40hr/week

Location: İstanbul / Fatih

Direct Report: Director

Background: Minimum of bachelor degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or equivalent fields

Experience: +2 years experience in nonprofit organizations in financial management, budgeting, grant management, and donor reporting


 

This role provides the Association and Social Enterprise with financial management and quality internal and external reporting and budgeting. The Finance Officer oversees day-to-day financial operations of the Organization and it’s Social Enterprise, ensures that operational policies and procedures are followed and implemented consistently in strict compliance with Turkish legislation and donor’s rules and regulations as well as financial reporting requirements.

Small Projects Istanbul (Registered as Zeytin Ağacı Derneği) is a Turkish NGO operating in Istanbul, Turkey to support those displaced by the conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa region. Along with Education, Psycho-Social Support, and Livelihoods programs SPI’s Community Center provides a safe and welcoming space for its community to connect and interact with each other while rebuilding their lives in Istanbul and beyond.

Main Responsibilities:

 

  • Draw up financial reports and organize financial procedures, documentation and verification of supporting documents.

  • Liaise with the Administration and Procurement department, banks and relevant project staff to ensure all expenditures, payments of payrolls and cash disbursements are in line with the organization's financial procedures.

  • Ensure timely and accurate payments of staff and vendors.

  • Ensure expenditures with respect to the approved budget.

  • Ensure that all financial activities and cash flows are in line with legislative and donor requirements.

  • Managing the cash management, budgeting, forecasting, troubleshooting, accounting and financial procedures and donor requirements.

  • Overseeing Social Enterprise’s pricing, billing, and payment systems.

  • Ensure transparent financial procedures when fulfilling objectives of the program and donors’ guidelines.

  • Ensure all financial documents and files are accurate and submitted within deadlines.

  • Control receipts, invoices and financial documents to justify payments.

  • Conduct monthly-yearly accountancy closure, advance closing and bank reconciliation.

  • Provide support, information, advice and guidance to other departments as to financial policies, procedures.

  • Participate in preparation and review of donor financial reports for submission.

  • Facilitate preparation of audits.

  • In case of temporary/permanently leave situation, Handover Report will be filled out and submitted to the relevant departments,

  • Undertake any other finance-related duty assigned by the line manager.

 

Required Skills/Qualifications:

 

Language Proficiency

 

  •  Fluency in English (min. C1) and Turkish languages both verbal and written

  •  Arabic speaking is an asset

 

Technical Competences

 

  • Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Office programs, Google Drive and Google spreadsheets

  • Excellent skills in data analysis, reporting and presentation

  • Good knowledge of online communications platforms (e.g slack, zoom)

III. Time Commitment: 

 

Full time, 40 hours / 5 days per week in the Community Center office, expected to attend all internal meetings, may be required to attend external sector events (conferences/training, etc)

 

Covid-19 Period: 

Full time: 40 hours/week hybrid work temporarily

Small Projects Istanbul (Registered in Turkey under the Turkish name “ZEYTIN AĞACI DERNEĞI”) is an independant NGO operating a Community Center in Istanbul, dedicated to helping displaced families rebuild their lives. SPI supports community development through delivering programs and activities for social cohesion, education support, and empowerment.
In order to provide livelihood opportunities to the women in the community and empower them to generate a small income to support their families, SPI has developed a Social Enterprise “Iktisadi Isletmesi” within the framework of the registered Association.
In 2016 SPI established the “Drop Earrings Not Bombs” collection, which continues to grow its international recognition and make customers happy all over the world. Then in 2017 SPI launched the brand “Muhra” as the central vehicle through which the products of the Women’s Social Enterprise are marketed to the world.
