Shafak was officially established in 10-10-2013 (registration no. 27-016-129). It was founded during the early months of the Syrian Crisis in 2011. At its core, Shafak is a grassroots NGO that was formed by Syrians for Syrians, with the intent of addressing the needs of their life with dignity, equality and humanity with a focus on sustainability and autonomy.

Shafak is an impartial, independent, non-profit NGO that exists for the express purpose of providing humanitarian services to vulnerable people regardless of political or religious affiliations and on the long run to contribute to recover and rebuilding the society on freedom, justice and equality basis.

Role Purpose

The FSL coordinator leads the implementation of food security and livelihoods project (s) that serves beneficiaries in Syria/Turkey.

  • Reports to: FSL Program Manager
  • Supervision responsibility: FSL officers/ Senior Officers
  • Location: Gaziantep - Turkey

 

Key areas of accountability and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall coordination of project implementation high quality programming in line with Shafak’s strategy and in accordance with donor requirements.
  • Participate in the projects proposal processes and ensure that all project progress in accordance with grant agreements, are completed within time and on budget
  • Serve as budget holder manager for projects with close coordination with Grants and finance department.
  • Review and authorize projects financial documents, including reviewing vouchers and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare timely and high quality progress reports, project reports, and donor reports in a manner to allow review and consolidation efficiently.
  • Collaborate with M&E team to ensure monitoring activities are in place and relevant to measure the impact of FSL projects and the quality of activities.
  • Attend cluster coordination meetings, if assigned to, and providing regular reports to the program manager.
  • Any other duties assigned by the line manager.

Staff Management

  • Ensure appropriate staffing within project team, including field office staff.
  • Ensure that all staff understand and are able to perform their role as required responsibility as appropriate
  • Manage projects’ team; define expectations, provide leadership and technical support as needed, and evaluate direct reports regularly assessments, corrective action plans and follow-up.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in development studies, business administration, economics, social sciences, or other relevant field
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional food security and livelihood experience with a humanitarian organization.
  • Experience in international humanitarian systems, institutions and donors, and of procedures, accountability frameworks and best practices in emergency management
  • Familiar with effective financial and budgetary control.
  • Solid project management skills related to organizational development projects, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results.
  • High-level of knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. required.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to cope with high workload and stress.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a commitment to teamwork.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and willingness to learn from others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • An understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey and Syria.

Language Skills:

  • Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and verbal.
  • Turkish is an asset.
