Dünya Doktorları Dernegi (DDD)/Medecins du Monde Turkey (MDM-T) is a Turkish based humanitarian non-governmental organisation that facilitates access to healthcare for populations affected by armed conflict, violence, natural disasters, disease, famine, poverty and exclusion.

Our organization collaborates with partners and key stakeholders to implement projects that facilitate access to primary and secondary-level healthcare services to respond to the medical needs of displaced population.

DDD is the 16th member of the Doctors of the World International Network that is committed to meeting the health needs of vulnerable people globally.

 

Mission

Since 2015, DDD implements programs in both Turkey and Syria providing refugee and IDP communities with free access to healthcare services. DDD works with a range of humanitarian professionals and technical experts to provide Primary Healthcare (PHC), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)services as well as sexual and reproductive health (SRH).

Since the beginning of the Syria and Iraqi crises, Turkey has become host to over 3 million refugees, migrants and asylum seekers which led to an increasing demand for health services. In this context, DDD’s intervention aims to assist local public health systems in providing and improving access to health and health related services to vulnerable populations among refugees and migrants in Turkey, specifically in Hatay, Izmir and Istanbul. In Syria, DDD runs health facilities in Idlib and Afrin provinces to deliver health-related services to IDPs.

 

Job Brief

The MHPSS clinical supervisor provides technical supervision mainly based on clinical perspective to the MHPSS field teams (consisting of, psychologists, psychosocial counsellors, psychosocial animators, case managers, health promoters and translators) confronting and intervening at multiple levels of human suffering and various sociocultural challenges in both urban and rural areas in Turkey. Within these circumstances, clinical supervision has a crucial role in order to ensure the quality of the services provided and prevent or alleviate stress- related signs and symptoms among the MHPSS teams.

The MHPSS clinical supervisor conducts individual and group supervision sessions on regular basis to each field’s MHPSS Team for discussing individual clients, families, groups and community-based interventions performed by the team members, in a structured way.

MHPSS clinical supervision reduces or foresees the possibility that experiencing challenges, stressors and dilemmas will affect the personal well-being of the MHPSS team member. On the other side during the planning and implementing process of MHPSS activities within the community, the MHPSS clinical supervisor is responsible to explore and detect potential risk factors which might have adverse impact on mental health and psychosocial well-being of the target community.

The MHPSS clinical supervisor contributes to ensure the quality of the MHPSS and protection-based activities and the results are in line with project objectives and outcomes;

As part of the MHPSS technical team, the clinical supervisor develops and provides guidelines and protocols about clinical approach for MHPSS related issues and she/he actively participates into ongoing strategy developing process from a clinical perspective.

The MHPSS Clinical supervisor aims to create a safe space for MHPSS teams that facilitates growth and enhances the personal well-being of each position. For this reason, apart from providing clinical supervision he/she designs and implements self-care and team building activities in order to enhance the well-being of the MHPSS staff. He/she conducts internal trainings and supports capacity building plans for strengthening the technical background of the MHPSS staff.

 

Hierarchical & Functional links

Based in İstanbul, the MHPSS Clinical Supervisor reports directly to the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Coordinator. In terms of links MHPSS Clinical Supervisor works in close collaboration with MHPSS Manager, Protection Manager, MHPSS Officer and Facility Managers in terms of functional and technical interaction and coordination.

  1. Responsibilities

Technical support 

  • Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date clinical supervision on a regular basis of DDD MHPSS

Staff in three bases (İstanbul, İzmir, Hatay)

  • Monitor all clinical interactions within both individual and group based MHPSS activities in terms of clinical aspects and provide solution-based technical approaches when needed.
  • Participate into evaluation of beneficiaries’ satisfaction and quality of care provided and overall implementation through satisfaction surveys, monitoring tools and other tools as may be necessary in collaboration with the M&E department and MHPSS Officer; 
  • Ensure the quality of the MHPSS activities especially the individual and group interventions by adapting clinical approaches, ethics and enhancing compliance with codes of conduct in practice.
  • Contribute on the development and implementation of adequate evidence-based preventive mental health interventions and activities to be conducted within the community
  • Conduct Self Care practices and interventions with implementing partner’s Staff; 
  • explore and detect potential risk factors which might have adverse impact on mental health and psychosocial well-being of the target community.

Supervision

  • Provide clinical supervision by individual, group or peer supervision regarding to each position on regular bases for Istanbul, Izmir and Hatay’s DDD’s and partners MHPSS teams’ members.
  • Assess the MHPSS teams’ skills & approach towards the beneficiaries within individual and group based interventions
  • Share lessons learned and best practices among the MHPSS teams in order to enhance awareness and attention about DDD’s internal experiences on MHPSS interventions.

Training and Capacity Building 

  • Organize or participate into internal and external trainings related with MHPSS interventions
  • Refine Psychosocial Needs Assessment Protocols and Skills;
  • Provide clinical guidelines for specialized individual sessions and psychosocial activities
  • Design and implement self-care and team building activities

Project Follow-Ups

  • Ensure activities are up to standard and results are in line with project objectives and outcomes
  • Maintain program files and documentation as per program management minimum standards, including maintaining the confidentiality and security of supervision data;
  • Guarantee ensure that appropriate strategies are used to address performance and skills deficits in the supervisees approach with clients.

Reporting

  • Assist the MHPSS Coordinator in providing enough and detailed information for activity reporting and evaluation;
  • Report all the supervision sessions on a regular basis following confidentiality principles. .
  • Ensure lessons learnt and success stories from the project are documented and reported to her/his line manager based on the on-going monitoring of the activities

Other Duties

  • Participate in internal work meetings;
  • Report any security related issues to the line manager;
  • Support operational organization of field trips and DDD activities;

Promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout Dünya Doktorları Derneği. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of Dünya Doktorları Derneği and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity. Communicates these values to staff and to partners and requires them to adhere to these values.

Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within Dünya Doktorları Derneği and amongst beneficiaries served by Dünya Doktorları Derneği.

 

NB: considering the purpose and values of the organisation, DDD requests to its employee complete flexibility in term of duties and commitment, as their job description and job title can be adjusted throughout the year according to needs and priorities.

 

Expected profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or equivalent is required, master’s degree in clinical psychology, psychosocial counseling, or health psychology or equivalent is required.
  • 3+ years of relevant clinical experience with patients/clients in psychotherapy/counseling
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in clinical supervision
  • Experience in systemic approach and group dynamics desirable;
  • Certification and licensing for the specific state of employment;

Languages

  • Fluent in Turkish, oral and written; Arabic would be an asset.

Professional experience and Skills

  • Good command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel Outlook)
  • Personal qualities as diplomacy, patient confidentiality, multi-cultural flexibility, stress management and a strong sense of integrity
  • To be receptive, sensitive and an excellent listener
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate an idea clearly and concisely in public, with good understanding of at stakes.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills and good ability to make proactive suggestions.
  • Able to manage priorities, take initiatives and work without constant supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situation.
