                             Job Description MHPSS Officer (MHPSSO)

 

Location:  Kahramanmaraş and Hatay

Number of People to be Hired: 4

Planned start date:  03.07.2023          

Planned end date: 31.12.2023

 

Overall Purpose: Working as an important member of a diverse team who are committed to serve the world’s most vulnerable with practical and compassionate care, the PSSO supports and assists with execution of the assigned mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) project(s). Under the direct supervision of the MHPSS Project Manager (MHPSS PM) the PSSO will aid in planning, implementing and monitoring of the psychosocial support activities. In close cooperation with the team and relevant stakeholders the PSSO assists in the preparation of work plans and learning materials needed for the project activities. In addition, he/she will assist in liaising with national authorities and humanitarian stakeholders as well as local organizations and community leaders and if necessary, participate in coordination meetings.

 

Project Overview: Our goal in the Turkey crisis is to provide rapid emergency assistance to the Turkish, and Syrian refugees to the internally displaced people affected by the Earthquake, to cover their immediate needs in health, shelter and basic assistance.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver the psychosocial and outreach activities including coordination of administrative functions.
  • Prepare work plans and learning materials required for PSS activities, (awareness) sessions and services.
  • Assist in liaising with national authorities and professionals and community-based organizations (CBO).
  • Maintain strong relationships and ongoing exchange of information with (I)NGOs and UN counterparts.
  • Provide technical guidance on psychosocial activities of the project.
  • Actively contribute to timely and quality preparation and submission of the project documents agreements and project reports on psychosocial activities.
  • According to the specific project needs contribute to the preparation of regular updates project summaries and other relevant information materials and statistics.
  • Participate in meetings with government entities Case Management Groups and coordination meetings in close coordination with the MHPSS PM.
  • Assist in organizing trainings and learning sessions to the beneficiaries and explore possible opportunities for them to enhance their skills and abilities.
  • Assist in developing monitoring and evaluation tools and undertake regular field visits to monitor project activities and implementation.
  • Within the scope of work perform other duties assigned by the MHPSS PM.

 

Communication and Coordination

  • Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the broader team and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, local and national government officials, UN agencies and other NGOs), with the objective of ensuring good cooperation and partnerships
  • Participate in Protection, MHPSS TWG and GBV meetings as appropriate and as assigned by the MHPSS PM, as well as in internal trainings, and other working groups or meetings as required, representing our organisation and feeding back to the MHPSS PM on relevant issues

 

Logistics

  • Liaise, as necessary, with the logistics and finance staff to ensure items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly

 

Quality Management

  • Promote and use our operating procedures, ensuring that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed
  • Ensure PSS activities are implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with the organisation, donor, country and international standards i.e. Sphere, CHS and IASC guidelines

Person Specification

Qualification / Experience Essential Desirable
Vocational qualification Qualification a psychiatric nurse, social worker or (medical) nurse with mental health training PFA and/or mhGAP-HIG training
Work experience 1 years’ post-qualification professional experience

Experience implementing mental health/ psychosocial/ protection projects or activities

Languages Good English, Arabic and Turkish (spoken and written) Ability to speak, or willingness to learn, local language
IT Familiar with Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
