JOB ADVERTISEMENT – Nutrition in Emergencies Programme Manager

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3 - The post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.


ROLE PURPOSE: 

The Nutrition Programme Manager will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of nutrition activities mainly Infant and Young Child Feeding in emergencies (IYCF-E) activities in Save the Children’s operational areas in Turkiye.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Head of Programme Operations - Hatay

Staff directly reporting to this post: TBD

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

  • Prepare and oversee Nutrition programme implementation to ensure timely delivery of programme activities (for example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management work plans).
  • Carry out visits to field sites in order to review/ monitor/ evaluate ongoing activities and provide on-the-job coaching and action planning.
  • Working closely with the HR team, lead on identifying Nutrition staffing needs and support with recruitment and induction.
  • Identify Nutrition programme supplies needs and coordinate with the logistics team to put in place a sensible phased procurement plan.
  • Prepare timely programme and donor reports on project activities in compliance with internal SC requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.
  • Working closely with the Accountability lead to put in place sector accountability mechanisms, ensuring that feedback is incorporated into programme design and learning disseminated to the wider Nutrition sector.
  • To ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter.

With support from the Nutrition backstop as needed:

  • lead innovative, creative and sustainable programming on Nutrition e.g. integrated mobile Mother Baby Areas, support to BMS-dependent infants, CVA for nutrition.
  • work closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation team put in place a Nutrition sector M & E plan, ensuring this links to reporting requirements
  • input into new business development for the Nutrition sector, including development of high quality concept notes and proposals, and engagement with donors’ technical advisers.
  • develop Nutrition response plans and master budgets and contribute to Save the Children’s overall response strategy with a focus on integrated nutrition programming
  • input Nutrition into multi-sectoral technical assessments in coordination with other SC thematic areas and/or other external sector agencies, ensuring assessment findings are documented and that all assessments include a specific analysis of children’s needs.
  • Input into Nutrition strategies, assessments and programmes as necessary, and proactively promote high quality Nutrition technical approaches within country programmes.

Capacity Building:

  • With support from the Nutrition backstop, develop learning needs assessment and capacity building plans for partner staff, linking capacity building initiatives to wider opportunities identified via coordination and networks.
  • With support from the Nutrition backstop, build the capacity, knowledge, understanding and confidence of field teams and partners to achieve the required quality standards in Nutrition work by developing, adapting, and sharing relevant tools, designing training modules and supporting the implementation and understanding of quality benchmarks including on the job technical mentoring.

Representation & Advocacy & Organisational Learning:

  • Represent SC-Turkey at Nutrition coordination platforms and relevant working groups where appropriate; sharing ideas, updates and advocating for action where necessary.
  • Help shape broader sector strategies through influence of and leadership within inter-agency coordination forums, ensuring the specific needs of children are being addressed.
  • Take the initiative in documenting lessons learnt, best practice and case studies to shape in-country strategies and programme approaches, and contribute to broader sector learning.
  • Pro-actively identify advocacy opportunities, case studies and research opportunities which link with wider organisational strategic objectives, and turn these into action.
  • Play a leadership role in shaping Nutrition communications and media priorities in line with thematic priorities, acting as a spokesperson when required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • BSc or Masters in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing or other relevant qualification
  • Previous experience of working in infant and young child feeding
  • At least 5-years experience in a similar role
  • Proven ability to supervise, train and mentor staff on Nutrition related topics, in particular IYCF-E
  • Communication abilities with various levels of Nutrition stakeholders - from decision-makers to field level practitioners.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Able to articulate ideas and concepts clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with budget management
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • Willingness and ability to be flexible in the face of difficult and frustrating working conditions
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support.

DESIRABLE:

  • Language skills in Turkish and/or Arabic
  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in Turkey or the region
  • Experience of working with NGO
  • Experience in emergency response

 

Position holder will be based in Hatay, therefore legal right to work in Türkiye will be necessary at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis.
