General Functions:

The Syria crisis is entering its fifth year and millions of Syrians continue to seek refuge in neighbouring countries including Turkey. It is estimated that over 12.2 million individuals inside Syria now require humanitarian assistance and 7.6 million are internally displaced (SRP 2015-2016). Over 4 million Syrians have fled as refugees (UNHCR).

As of 01 May 2016, Turkey is hosting over 2,7 million Syrian refugees. Over 260,000 reside in 25 camps (over 9% of the total Syrian refugees) across South East Turkey and the remaining live outside of camps (around 91%). Of the 2.5 million living outside of camps, the majority are spread across Turkey, with the majority residing in the border provinces, Sanliurfa, Hatay as well as Istanbul, Mersin, and Adana.

In October 2014, the Government of Turkey adapted the Temporary Protection (TP) Regulation that extends protection and assistance to all Syrians in Turkey and provides refugees with rights and duties and the framework to access health care, education, and social assistance.

Under the overall supervision of the National Project Officer (Education and Protection) and direct supervisor of the Senior Project Assistant in Gaziantep, the incumbent will be responsible in providing support in project implementation and reporting on the above-mentioned project’s component on Municipality Center in Gaziantep.  

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Math subject conducted by Ensar Community Center for migrants and refugees as well as host communities in designated classes by serving at least 30 beneficiaries per month based on the curriculum.
  2. Report the attendance sheets of the refugees and migrants to the Project Management of the Ensar Community Center on weekly basis
  3. Prepare the content of Math subject for each group of students/trainees as well as regular examination (pre and post-tests)  periodically to measure the development of each student / trainee.
  4. Plan each Math subject according to the level of beneficiaries – and, needs of beneficiaries- by specifying age/level/gender/needs of learning groups.
  5. Communicate with parents of children and/or trainees to update about the learning process of the beneficiary.
  6. Communicate with beneficiaries and Center’s staff to reach out to new beneficiaries for the Math subject.
  7. Assist in the processes of planning periodical social and cultural activities- which are chosen by the project management team- for migrants and refugees, when needed.
  8. Provide inputs and shares observation during case discussion with professionals when required
  9. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • University degree in Education and Mathematics or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or
  • Completed High school degree from an accredited academic institution, with two years of relevant professional experience.

Experience:

  • Proven teaching experience in Mathematics;
  • Proven analytical, interpersonal, mediation and organizational skills;
  • Excellent level of computer literacy;
  • Experience in liaising with migrant communities;
  • Prior experience working with migrant children will be an advantage.

Languages:

  • Turkish (Fluent)
  • Arabic and English (advantageous)
