The Association

The Women’s Legal & Community Center is a space run by Yaşamak Sosyal Alan ve Dayanışma DerneğiIt aims at supporting marginalized individuals and communities (particularly refugee and migrant women) to start a new life in Izmir and to foster solidarity among Turkish society and migrant communities. 

The center offers coordinated legal, psychological, and social support to overcome barriers to social and economic mobility and to facilitate daily life.

Additional to the above-mentioned services, the following programs aimed at fostering integration and the clients’/participants’ autonomy: various workshops and activities including social activities, practical workshops, and gender equality sessions, assistance for finding jobs, interactive anti-discrimination sessions (theater, art, and music-based) and a holistic peace-building program.

Above all that, the center is available to participants as a free, open, and participatory space, as well as a place of meeting, exchange, mutual learning, and common activities where everyone has a feeling of belonging, security, and trust. In this frame, language-speaking and experience-exchange groups take place.

The center includes a separate area for child-care to enable women with children to participate in the center’s program.

 

 

Job Description

The Program Officer is responsible for planning and organizing all activities being conducted in the scope of the Holistic Peace Building Program including a Peace Building Camp, group and individual sessions, seminars, conferences, and workshops.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop a holistic Peace-Building program and plan, coordinate and partly implement the programs’  components.
  • Ensure timely and qualitative implementation of the program in line with the programs’ schedule and planning.
  • Prepare and follow up all the processes related to the program (Peace-Building camps, conferences, individual sessions, PRs, external experts, work plan).
  • Be responsible for monitoring and supervising all activities implemented in the scope of the program to ensure effective implementation. Conduct the application process for the peace-building program 
  • Establish a relationship and attends technical meetings with other stakeholders and networks when appropriate; conduct networking activities 
  • Follow-up with other departments in relation to project activities.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and periodical reports as requested.
  • Ensure that all documents and program documentation are well archived.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining good relations with refugee and host communities, local authorities, volunteers, and other local actors.
  • Closely coordinate with the Project Coordinator.
  • Attend regular coordination meetings of the whole team
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator 

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education, International Relations, Political sciences or other related fields
  • Minimum two years program management experience
  • Experience working with women and with vulnerable groups; preferably experienced with issues of life in exile. 
  • Experience in fieldwork with an NGO (preferred)
  • Experience of cross-cultural work
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to unexpected situations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; detail-oriented
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and values
  • Commitment to equal opportunity and gender practice
  • Good team player, flexible and capable of working with a multicultural team, and culturally sensitive

The association carries out educational work circling around life in exile in its wider context of a past-colonial, globalized world as well as the Women's Legal & Community Center which aims to support female refugees and migrants and their families residing in Izmir to overcome every-day burdens and to increase their social mobility and autonomy.
