General Functions:

Under the overall supervision of the Protection and Resilience Officer in Gaziantep and direct supervision of the Project Field Coordinator in Mersin, the incumbent will be responsible in providing vocational counselling services for the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Migrant and Community Center. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible in the project coordination of the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Migrant and Community Center in close cooperation with IOM Turkey programme teams.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Meet migrants and refugees at the Municipal Migrant and Community Center (“Center”) to provide necessary updated guidance and orientation to ease their access to labour market,
  2. Assist migrants and refugees to assess their qualifications and skills to enter into labour market and to support them for their job search and job applications.
  3. Report child labours to the relevant units such as education, social services, protection and follow up the situation,
  4. Support migrants and refugees in accessing to available vocational courses in accordance with their educational and professional background at the provincial and district levels,
  5. Contribute to organization of vocational guidance briefings, trainings and preparation of informative materials on labour market integration,
  6. Represent IOM activities on provincial level meetings, working groups, workshops. Report the minutes of meeting accurately and professionally,
  7. Collect requests for migrants and refugees in accessing vocational guidance and conduct focus group discussions while planning future activities in a coordination with Center Staff,
  8. Meet and liaise with relevant local public authorities and civil society organizations to improve access to work force for migrants and refugees,
  9. Report challenges and progress recorded in realization of activities and duties,
  10. Provide necessary information, feedbacks, documentation regarding the development of IOM internal procedures and in center work flow.
  11. Perform other duties as may be assigned

 

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Completed bachelor’s degree in education, technical education, social sciences disciplines and other related field with two years relevant professional experience
  • Completed High school degree from an accredited academic institution, with four years of relevant professional experience.

 

Experience:

  • Experience in relevant field and in working with vulnerable groups
  • Proven experience in facilitating counselling activities for migrants;
  • Knowledgeable in organizing health related workshops;
  • Proven analytical, interpersonal, mediation and organizational skills;
  • Excellent level of computer literacy; 

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Turkish is required.  
  • Working knowledge of Arabic is advantageous.

In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
