Job Title: Project Assistant

Welthungerhilfe's Head Office is in Bonn, Germany whilst the Syria Response is managed from our Country Office in Gaziantep. Welthungerhilfe was established in Turkey in 2013 specifically to help people who are affected by the Syria Crisis. Since then, the organization has expanded its program scope and scale to make the greatest possible contribution to meeting humanitarian needs in Turkey and Northwest Syria. Welthungerhilfe has field offices in Azaz and Afrin, as well as Ankara, Istanbul, Hatay and Mardin. The Syria Response program includes food security, WASH services, Shelter and NFI services, protection, early recovery, and livelihood.

Project Assistant in Mardin

 

The position is to be filled by June 2023, with a contract duration of 7 months. There are good prospects for an extension.  Employment location will be Mardin, Türkiye.

The project aims to empower vulnerable refugees and local communities in southeast Türkiye by providing ecologically sustainable livelihood opportunities, fostering social cohesion, and improving access to protection and social services. A zero-waste and regenerative agriculture approach will be adapted across the project to prevent the exposure of the environment to pollutants, chemicals, and biohazards.  The project will be implemented by local partners: The beneficiaries will be supported through provision of a mix of services, including protection services, social cohesion and income generating activities. The project’s main focus will be directed towards the agricultural livelihoods and women’s cooperatives components. These components will aim to economically strengthen vulnerable refugees and local households in Mardin Batman and Diyarbakır, by creating new employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the agriculture and food processing sectors. The activities include setting up of an agroecology training & implementation centre in Mardin, delivery of trainings on natural farming practices for agricultural workers, small-scale farmers and youth, technical and financial support for natural farming initiatives and existing women cooperatives, and capacity building for authorities and partners.

 

In addition to this main project, Project Assistant will be involved in post-earthquake response projects based on cash support, distribution, and women empowerment project. Post-earthquake projects are mostly cash support and distribution thus, it may also require travel to earthquake affected cities.

 

We are looking for a candidate who is willing to work for the earthquake response project and who is passion about permaculture/ regenerative / ecologic /climate resilience agriculture-based livelihood activities and empowerment of women through cooperatives. 

 

Your responsibilities:

 

  • Support Head of Project (HOP) and officers, and relevant staff in project implementation. Also work closely with WHH operational teams (finance, logistics, MEAL, communications) to ensure quality delivery of the services.
  • Prepare, follow and archive logistic and finance related forms and documentations of the project according to the WHH and donor rules.
  • Provide translation, proof-read of related forms and documents., etc.  Provide translation during meetings with different stakeholders, especially while communicating with target groups and local authorities.
  • Update the project database with the necessary documents, reports, meeting minutes, etc. Make sure that all documents are put into it, save copies of the documents related to the project and share the needed ones with the related departments.
  • Prepare updates on project relevant issues, e.g., reporting, writing minutes of different meetings, overviews.
  • Attending activities and supporting field visits of partner organizations whenever necessary.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of training/events in administrative and technical terms in coordination with related departments.
  • Support monitoring of project activities and preparation of narrative reports.
  • Able to travel to earthquake affected cities.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

 

Education: A bachelor’s degree (Business, economics as social sciences, engineering, etc…)

Language Skills: English - Turkish (speaking, reading and especially writing) proficiency is required. 

 

Desired qualifications:

 

Work Experience: Preferably 0-3 years of relevant working experience in a non-profit organization.

Personality requirements: Ability to integrate in a transcultural team, hardworking, respectful, good communication skills, attentive to detail, co-operative, good humor, able to work independently and with remote supervision.

Language Skills:  German, Arabic, Kurdish is a strong asset. 

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (PowerPoint, Excel etc.)  Capability in Presentation programs (Prezi, Miro,etc.) and M&E,statistic tools (Kobo, Stata, R, etc.. ) is highly preferable.

 

 

The Project Assistant will be obliged to maintain confidentiality regarding all information obtained in the course of his/her work during the employment at Welthungerhilfe and thereafter.
