CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

As part of these responsibilities the post holder will support the establishment of child safeguarding systems, promote a culture of keeping children safe, and ensure that potential harm to children (by our own staff and/or as a result of how we do our work) is identified and addressed on an ongoing basis. The post holder should report and respond to interventions as determined by position related responsibilities identified in the Child Safeguarding Policy.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

The post will support a 12-month project focused on developing a child rights and business model that enables child labour prevention, remediation, and child protection beyond compliance for hazelnut supply chain in Black Sea Region. The Project Officer will support the Project Manager to ensure adherence to overall technical and programmatic quality in implementation, compliance with donor rules and regulations, and the timely submission of all deliverables, including work plans, budget forecasts, performance monitoring plans, and reports as required. The Project Officer will also be responsible for the coordination of the activities of any sub-recipient partners under the agreement in coordination with the project team. S/he will be expected to conduct regular visits to other program locations.

*** Frequent travel between Istanbul and Ordu

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Supervised by the Project Manager, and in collaboration with partner(s) and relevant departments (e.g. Program Development and Quality, Supply Chain, Finance), support the scheduling, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of project activities.
  • Provide regular updates on progress, priorities and constraints and assist with administrative duties related to the project and child protection activities.
  • Maintain respectful relationships with partners in line with Save the Children’s partnership principles and theory of change.
  • Support the Project Manager and Program Development and Quality department in mapping, development and update of services and referral systems (health, education, psychosocial, etc.) on regular basis.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to support the partner staff at the project sites in the planning, implementation and monitoring of activities that may include: psychosocial support services, individual support to vulnerable children, referrals, training, and awareness raising on child protection.
  • Support review of partner narrative and financial reporting as well as MEAL data, in line with internal deadlines.
  • Ensure that all actions on the best interest of the child, are gender-sensitive and implemented in a manner that enhances the sense of dignity, participation and psychosocial wellbeing of children, youth and families.
  • Support delivery of outstanding outcomes for children in their best interests that reflect zero tolerance of abuse, exploitation, neglect and violence.
  • In case of emergency, be prepared to contribute to the delivery of an appropriate and timely response.
  • Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child safeguarding policy, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.
  • Any other reasonable duty may be assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and level of responsibility. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • A degree in social sciences, such as social work, sociology, psychology, education, international development, economics, public policy or a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in child protection programmes, psychosocial support, social work and community mobilisation (preferably in child labour and / or seasonal migration and agriculture area)
  • Good understanding of youth work and children’s developmental and psychosocial needs
  • Good technical understanding of child protection and community-based approaches
  • Knowledge of Child Rights, Child Protection Minimum Standards and other international recognised tools
  • Experience in working through a partner organization in a complex stakeholder environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong ability to take initiative
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
  • Excellent team player
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
  • Fluent in Turkish and English – written and spoken
  • Computer literacy including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel

 

Desired

  • Experience and knowledge on projects that combat child labour in seasonal agriculture; such as policy, labour law enforcement, community engagement, social behaviour change, monitoring, improved livelihoods (experience in hazelnut supply chain would be an asset)
  • Experience of working in projects with international donors
  • Demonstrable experience engaging with national stakeholders and partners
  • Demonstrable experience on working with government bodies and collaborating closely with multi-level stakeholders.
