Job Purpose: The Psychosocial Support (PSS) Facilitator will be responsible for facilitating PSS activities for children and youth, preparing PSS materials suitable for the targeted age group and implementing Caregiver Engagement sessions for families in Concern’s community centres. The PSS Facilitators need to have knowledge and practical skills to carry out focused psychosocial support activities (in person and online) with children at high risk of vulnerability. Staff in the community centre implement PSS programming for children as well as provide protection services for the surrounding community.

PSS Facilitators are managed by the Team Leader in Siverek Community Centre and supported by the Sanliurfa-based PSS technical team. PSS Facilitators are responsible for creating a safe environment for children to participate in PSS activities, ensuring regular attendance and supporting children’s personal resilience and psychosocial wellbeing. When children complete the PSS programme, PSS Facilitators then link children and their families to an appropriate formal education opportunity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare daily plans prior to every PSS session in line with the existing PSS curriculum and activity bank; prepare appropriate materials and/or visual aids in advance of the session.
  • In collaboration with other PSS facilitators in the community centre, deliver PSS sessions to targeted age groups; facilitate engaging sessions in person and remotely that encourage children’s active participation and personal development.
  • Positively interact with children, communicate clearly, so they feel safe and respected at all times, and encourage them to express their emotions and needs.
  • Ensure inclusive participation by following an approach that is sensitive and responsive to age, gender and disability.
  • Follow up on the students’ wellbeing, attendance and specific needs; refer children and families to Concern’s Protection team when further specialized support is necessary.
  • Report on the number of students, achievements, and new registration requests; update the Team Leader and PSS technical team on any issues, challenges or gaps in implementation.
  • Contact children and families regarding any updates and changes in PSS or Caregiver Engagement schedule and implementation.
  • Liaise with managers of educational institutions (DDoNE, TPS, PECs, RAM centres and others) to facilitate student enrolment in formal education opportunities after completing the PSS cycle.
  • Facilitate seminars for parents and caregivers in line with existing Caregiver Engagement curriculum.
  • Collaborate closely with MEAL team to monitor activities with existing PSS and Caregiver Engagement monitoring tools and use PSS selection criteria effectively.

Other tasks

  • Contribute to organisational accountability initiatives, including overseeing the roll out of commitments of Concern under the HAP (Humanitarian Accountability Partnership).
  • Support and promote the standards outlined in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Concern Code of Conduct to their team, beneficiaries, and be committed to providing a safe working environment.
  • Support emergency response programming for Concern as and when requested.

Minimum Education, Qualifications & Experience Required: 

  • Degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Sociology or related field (additional proven professional experience offering services for children, such as education, social cohesion, PSS and/or child protection, may be substituted for degree);
  • Native fluency in Arabic (speaking, reading and writing);
  • At least one year of teaching experience with children or one year of experience facilitating creative art, music and recreational activities for children;
  • At least one year of professional experience in the humanitarian sector.

We would also like

  • Fluency in Turkish;
  • Experience working directly with children affected by crisis and conflict;
  • Basic understanding of child development and child protection standards;
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn;
  • Excellent communication skills with children, youth and adults, including active listening skills.
  • Strong motivation to work with refugee children and ability to work on a multicultural, multilingual team;
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams);
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles.
