  1. Organizational Background

MSYD, is a non-governmental and humanitarian aid organisation which mainly aims at meeting basic needs and improving living conditions of the individuals and communities who are affected by humanitarian crisis, conflicts, human rights violations and natural disasters.

 

MSYD continues its works at national and international level within principles of non-discrimination, transparency, impartiality, and accountability, according to the international standards of humanitarian privacy. ASRA has a role in enhancing living conditions of crisis affected individuals and communities through activities and emergency responses carried out at national and international level.

 

MSYD, by carrying out field studies which regularly analyse the conditions of crisis affected people, and publishing situation reports; directs the attention of relevant organisations to crisis regions.

 

MSYD, pursuant to the principles of non-discrimination, transparency, impartiality and accountability, adopts direct and quick response to the crisis affected individuals and communities, as the main principle.

 

2.Job Summary

 

The job holder will help people to cope with mental health issues, emotional problems and challenging situations using a range of psychological concepts and psychotherapeutic techniques, such as PM Plus, transactional analysis, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Rather than simply offering guidance, counselling psychologists encourage service users to make their own decisions. He/she will assist people by offering them a structured and focused way of addressing their problems.

 

He/she will help people with all kinds of difficulties, from substance abuse and domestic violence to post-traumatic stress and eating disorders.  As well as talking to people and helping them deal with their problems, counselling psychologists are responsible for assessing service users’ needs using psychometric tests and interviews. Based on these assessments, counselling psychologists will then create a bespoke therapy plan for the individual service user.

 

Counselling psychologists are also responsible for maintaining records, tracking the progress of service users, and writing reports to Protection Officer and Project Manager

 

3.Responsibilities & Tasks: 

Within delegated authority, Psychologist will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Work in collaboration with PSS Assistants to undertake assessments of patients registered for MHPSS services.
  • Provide/support group counselling and psychoeducation, both in-centre and as part of outreach activities.
  • Provide culturally sensitive individual mental health sessions for persons of concern.
  • Conduct Individually (“one-on-one”) counselling and/or group counselling sessions schedules and upon undertaken relevant needs assessment, within the field office and/or home visits when it is necessary and appropriate
  • Design and coordinate psychosocial programs to address the specific needs of persons at risk of, or survivors of GBV
  • Design and coordinate psychosocial programs to address the specific needs of persons exposed to protection risks.
  • Provide psychotherapy, individual counselling and behavioural therapies (e.g. CBT) for patients assessed as requiring MHPSS services. Patients will be assigned according to the psychologists’ current level of experience and specialist training
  • Identify individual mental health cases and case follow up until cases can be considered to be closed
  • Carry out capacity building of staff on psychological and PSS topics
  • Provide psychological support to other departments, if needed
  • Encourage preparation of modules which will be created for use in group sessions
  • Support the team management in developing a weekly schedule for the PSS Assistants,
  • Provide a weekly report of number of cases seen and diagnosis by age and gender as well as a source of referral using spreadsheets and collection tools provided (mental health clients)
  • Write weekly report and submit relevant department
  • Keep a record of attendance and pre-post-test of any trainings provided in the programme files
  • Maintain complete individual files for each person visited, including detailed descriptions of services provided.
  • In case of temporary/permanently leave situation, Handover Report will be filled out and submitted to the relevant departments,

 

4.Required Skills/Qualifications:

 

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree of in psychology.

  • Experience working with Gender Base Violence survivors
  • Experience working with case management
  • Experience working within a team
  • Experience in individual and group therapy sessions
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workload and working with limited resources
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and facilitation skills
  • Strong problem solving and organisational skills
  • Flexible and responsive.

 

Language Skills: Fluent in Arabic and English. Turkish language skill is an asset.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point.

 

5.Additional responsibilities:

In relation to their level of skills and experience the post holder may be required to carry out additional duties from time to time that are reasonable.
