  1. Organizational Background

ASRA, is a non-governmental and humanitarian aid organization which mainly aims at meeting basic needs and improving living conditions of the individuals and communities who are affected by humanitarian crisis, conflicts, human rights violations and natural disasters.

ASRA continues its works at national and international level within principles of non-discrimination, transparency, impartiality, and accountability, according to the international standards of humanitarian privacy. ASRA has a role in enhancing living conditions of crisis affected individuals and communities through activities and emergency responses carried out at national and international level.

ASRA, by carrying out field studies which regularly analyses the conditions of crisis affected people, and publishing situation reports; directs the attention of relevant organizations to crisis regions.

ASRA, pursuant to the principles of non-discrimination, transparency, impartiality and accountability, adopts direct and quick response to the crisis affected individuals and communities, as the main principle.

      2. Job Summary

Psychosocial Assistant  ( Pss Assistant ) will be responsible about Psycho-Education and Life Skills development opportunities through Peer Group activities. Psychosocial Assistant will help clients-beneficiaries by assessing their situation; setting goals; obtaining required services. The job holder will assist the psychologist and psychiatrist to do Pss activities.

      3. Responsibilities & Tasks: 

Within delegated authority, Psychosocial Assistant (Pss Assistant ) will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Plan, coordinate, manage and implement support packages to help clients/beneficiaries deal with difficulties and overcome dependencies.
  • Monitor and evaluate clients/beneficiaries’ progress and modify treatment plans accordingly.
  • Conducting interviews with individuals and families to assess and review their situation.
  • Refer clients/beneficiaries to other service providers to help them in recovery.
  • Provide group counselling and Psycho-education, in filed office and outside office if required.
  • Provide a weekly report of number of cases who join the activities.
  • Offering information and support.
  • Recommending and sometimes making decisions about the best course of action for a person or family
  • Participating in training, supervision and team meetings.
  • Be responsible to do community based PSS sessions, life skills sessions, parenting skills sessions, special events and learning activities etc.
  • Accompany children and families to external agencies to facilitate access to service provisions;
  • Maintain contact with families and working and disseminate information, materials and NFI’s as and when required;
  • Conduct pre/post questionnaires in all locations of intervention-following standardized protocols accordingly;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop MSYD-ASRA programs;
  • Ensure PSS Facilitators, Community Based Groups and PSS Support Volunteers identify and refer children and caregivers in need of case management to CP or Gender Based Violence Case Management (GBV case management) on a monthly basis or in need of Focused PSS to relevant Focused PSS sessions  
  • Ensure the PSS Facilitators are trained to adapt activities and methodologies and take the needed steps to include children and families with special needs 
  • builds and maintains effective relationships, with their team, colleagues, Members and external partners and supporters
  • Follow up on cases referred to national mental health service providers
  • Ensure Child Safeguarding standards are understood and met by Field staff and partners, in collaboration with the Focal Point, and program teams.
  • Contribute to Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support ( MHPSS ) analysis, research and documentation activities
  • Coordinate Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support  (MHPSS ) inputs for Sitreps, case studies and other communications materials, in collaboration with the Communications Team
  • Ensure data entry of the all activities conducted and supervised by PSS staff
  • Prepare and submit weekly and/or monthly report in a given/pre-determined time period
  • In case of temporary/permanently leave situation, Handover Report will be filled out and submitted to the relevant departments,

      4. Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of social theories and practices
  • Social perceptiveness and empathy
  • Ability to build and maintain professional helping relationships
  • Ability to relate and communicate with diverse population and groups
  • Resilience along with ability to assess situations
  • Degree in Psychology or psychological counseling and guidance
  • Experience in individual and group therapy sessions
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workload and working with limited resources
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills
  • Flexible and responsive

         5.  Additional responsibilities:

In relation to their level of skills and experience the post holder may be required to carry out additional duties from time to time that are reasonable.
