Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) is an international humanitarian organization that helps people in need in over 15 countries. We began our emergency relief operation in response to the Syrian crisis in October 2012. AAR Japan is looking for an Outreach Officer who will be positioned in Istanbul, Turkey.

LOCATION: Istanbul

Reports to:Country Director

External Representation:

  • Negotiation and representation with senior level representatives including government at national level and international donors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build the capacity of general staff on issues related on disabilities, chronic diseases and general medical issues as they pertain to disabilities, including module, PowerPoint, and primer development.
  • Develop training modules as they pertain to medicine, disabilities, health and nutrition.
  • Develop and revise AARJ’s guidelines and procedures for health, medicine and disabilities.
  • Monthly monitoring of physiotherapists during home visits.
  • Meet with physiotherapists to help determine their needs and facilitate their relationship with case management and line managers.
  • Participate in case committees to provide medical input for disabilities, chronic diseases and other illnesses.
  • Meet monthly with other technical managers for document review and development and improvement and coordination on current methods and procedures. 
  • Meet with relevant governing bodies, actors and donors both at local, national and international at it pertains to health, medicine and disabilities.
  • Represent AARJ at local, national and international-level meetings, conferences, working groups, etc as it pertains to health, medicine and disabilities. 

PERSON REQUIREMENTS

Desirable

Education

  • Medical Bachelor degree in general medicine.
  • Masters in public health.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 1-2 years in public health or
  • Understanding of physiotherapy and/or advanced degree in physiotherapy.

 

 

 

Skills, knowledge and abilities

  • English language and a working knowledge of Turkish.
  • Strong writing, communication and presentation skills.

 

 

  • Understanding of Turkey’s public health institutions.

General:

 

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work closely with managers and implementation staff as needed.
  • Regular monthly travel required.
