Syrian Economic Forum
The Syrian Economic Forum (SEF), established in 2011, is an innovative think tank
dedicated to building a free, pluralistic, and independent Syria that rests on a strong
economy, so as to ensure a life of freedom and dignity for all Syrians. It is the first think
tank founded specifically representing the interests and pro-democracy voice of the
Syrian private sector.
To uphold the principles of justice, truth and honor, and respect for human rights, SEF
works to promote democratically-driven, sustainable development interventions; by doing
so, the organization is actively working to strengthen the Syrian economy, both now and
in the long-term. Both inside Syria and among Syrian communities in diaspora, SEF
serves as an authentic, authoritative source of information and economic analysis;
through the organization’s weekly newsletters and a series of signature policy papers,
SEF is advancing evidence-based solutions for Syria’s current unrest and eventual
reconstruction.
Through its policy work, advocacy efforts, and civic education courses, SEF seeks to
encourage an economic model in which ordinary citizens drive reform and decisionmakers
cooperate with business leaders and young people to positively influence the
development of future generations of Syrians, promote excellence in education, and
encourage a community culture of increased accountability, transparency, and
engagement. In 2015, SEF served as the official Syrian host of Global Entrepreneurship
Week—the country’s first representation in the annual event since its inception.
