Background

Reach Alternatives (REALs, former JCCP: https://reals.org/en) is an international NGO with its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. In Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and the Middle East, REALs runs a wide variety of field projects, ranging from community security and safety, research and training in peace and security, protection of war-affected population, prevention of and response to gender-based violence, livelihood, to peacebuilding programmed with a strong focus on capacity-building.

The organization has been active in Turkey since 2015 and supported Syrian and Iraqi refugees and the host community people in needs. The representative office of the organization, Japan Center for Conflict Prevention Turkey (JCCP Turkey), has been registered in Turkey in 2019, which is located in Istanbul. Our priority areas of work in Turkey in recent years are: Gender, Social Cohesion, youth empowerment, and self-reliance of Syrian and other refugees through provision of gender-responsive protection support.

REALs, within the programme of UNDP and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has been implementing a project to promote coexistence and social cohesion between Turkish and Syrian youth in 5 provinces, namely; Ankara, İstanbul, Şanlıurfa, Kocaeli and Bursa. REALs will provide a training on social cohesion and peace building to the selected youth and assist them to design and carry out social cohesion activities in their provinces.

REALs invites applications for the position of Social Cohesion Specialist who engages within the scope of the below duties and responsibilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilitate needs assessment of Social Cohesion to youth in 5 provinces in order to design training curriculum under REALs’ supervision.

• Develop training curriculum and relevant materials with inputs of the issues of social cohesion and the local context in Turkey in cooperation with Programme Advisor of REALs.

• Facilitate the training in the targeted 5 provinces (4 to 5-day training in each province) with Programme Advisor of REALs.

• Organize and carry out regular consultations on social cohesion activities/events with Turkish and Syrian youth and REALs.

• Ensure full compliance of programme activities.

• Perform other functions as deemed essential for effective results.

Education

Required:

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Public Administration, Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Psychology, Law, or related field.

Experience

Required:

• A minimum of 6 years of experience of working in the field related to social cohesion/peace building/human rights/capacity development.

• Demonstrated experience in facilitating and organizing trainings and dialogues on social cohesion.

• Experience and knowledge in conflict analysis, prevention and resolution subject area will be an advantage.

Preferred:

• Work experience with other international organizations, NGOs and/or governmental development agencies.

• Past experience in engaging with local stakeholders including the government, CSOs, and academia in politically sensitive areas.

Knowledge, skills and languages

Required:

• Strong knowledge on Syrian under temporary protection in Turkey and social cohesion and social harmonization.

• Able to have regular travel to the project sites; Ankara, İstanbul, Şanlıurfa, Kocaeli and Bursa.

• Good interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to work under pressure and deadlines.

• Well-organized, accuracy and fine attention to detail.

• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

• Practical, flexible, and creative in challenging moments.

• Ability to produce reports and archive them in a systemic way.

• Fluently spoken and written English and Turkish or English and Arabic.
