Summary

iMFAD invites applications for an Survey/Disposal Team Member (EOD) International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) level 1 or equivalent military/police standard qualified. Survey/Disposal Team Member to support iMFAD's mine action program in Syria, stationed in Aleppo/Ar Raee Azaz/Syria.

The Team Member’s main responsibilities are to survey areas contaminated with explosive remnants of war (ERW) and to dispose threats as directed by the team leader. The Team Member reports to Survey/Disposal Deputy Team Leader. He/she will work in a potentially unstable environment, therefore will need to demonstrate a positive and self-motivated attitude and ability to get along with others in a close-knit team. Conditions such as these require a level head, patience, a can-do attitude, a person who is solutions-oriented and has a willingness to adhere to strict security protocols. Good interpersonal skills with national authorities and national staff are a prerequisite.

The Team Member will be responsible from carrying out or taking actions as directed by  the  Leadership relevant to explosive hazards survey and disposal, and mine action tasks in a broader sense. S/he will support the Deputy Team Leader in guiding, managing and monitoring the implementation of the program, projects and coordination commitments to ensure the achievement of quality results in a timely manner; expand partnerships as well as resources mobilization.

 

Duties

  • Conduct survey, battle area clearance and mine clearance activities.
  • Support Explosives Ordnance Disposal activities as guided by the team leader.
  • Operate in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as guided by iMFAD and/or International/National Mine Action Standards (I/NMAS).
  • Support technical oversight of field operations including training, daily operational planning and implementation, and the direction of locally employed operational and administrative personnel under his/her control.
  • Responsible for all assets under his control.
  • Conduct of safe operations at the task site & strict application of SOPs.
  • Facilitate Internal QA & Reporting activities by supporting Team Leader.
  • Establish radio communications daily before work begins & checking them regularly during operations
  • Accurate marking and recording of ERW contaminated locations
  • Measurement & verification of the days work
  • Other work as directed
  • Timely, clear and concise daily reports
  • Strong and consistent survey and disposal rates
  • Maintain the skills and knowledge on survey and disposal, and admin issues provided by the training.

 

General Requirements

  • Syrian nationality is essential.
  • Ability to write clearly and coherently.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team and in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

 

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Graduate degree from a University or graduate of vocational school with 2 years of work experience at least.
  • EOD International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) level 1 at minimum, or equivalent military/police standard qualified.
  • Knowledge and experience of EOD and ERW clearance methodologies.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA), commercial or military mine/ERW/UXO clearance.

 

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Knowledge of IMAS, Non-technical Survey (NTS), Battle Area Clearance (BAC).
  • Flexibility, cultural awareness and sensitivity are essential.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
  • Desirable: Experience in high-risk/hardship environments is an asset. Experience working within or with humanitarian NGOs is an asset.

 

Language Requirements

Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English is essential.

Fluency in written and spoken Turkish is desired.

 

Working Conditions

The Survey/Disposal Team Member will work mostly in the fields of Aleppo in connection with the Office in Ar Raee (Syria/Azez), Aleppo to perform Survey/Disposal Team Member duties. S/he will usually work within basic working hours unless there’s a need for her/him to meet deadlines. Most of the time, the Survey/Disposal Team Member is only required to work on a weekday, but not on a holiday.
