About Concern: Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest, and conflict affected countries. Concern has been working in Turkey since August 2013 and currently looking for a Syria Desk Officer for Şanlıurfa Office.

Job Overview

Job Title                                  “Syria Desk” Business Development Officer

Location                                 General Directorate of Industrial Zone (Social Facilities Building), and Concern office, Şanlıurfa Turkey

Reporting line                        The “Syria Desk” Business Development Officer will report to Concern’s Livelihoods Programme Manager and will coordinate activities with the Director of Sanliurfa Industrial Zone.

Job Overview: 

The “Syria Desk” Business Development Officer is responsible to support refugee led businesses and small enterprises to formalize their business and to take advantage of services available from Government related government departments such as ISKUR, Chamber of Commerce, Municipalities, Tax department, Revenue Office Etc. Secondly, the business development officer will link skilled workers among the refugee community with job opportunities in the private sector in Sanliurfa Province.

The Business Development Officer will be based in the Administration Office of the Sanliurfa Industrial Zone and in Concern’s office in Sanliurfa. The position will report to the Concern Livelihoods Manager and coordinate activities with the Director of the Industrial Zone

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Programme Implementation:

 

  • Supporting Syrian private sector companies to access public services such as Chamber of Commerce, İŞKUR, Directorate of Industrial Zone and other institutions and Mapping Syrian private sector , factories and small businesses in Şanlıurfa
  • Determining the problems faced by Syrian companies and produce solutions related the public authorities and ensure all kinds of information and consulting needs of Syrian companies to be met, directed to the right authorities (Registry procedures, establishing new companies, membership information, Fairs, Auctions, visas, banking problems, citizenship issues, new laws, Syria border gates etc.),
  • Communicating with IŞKUR on regular basis to understand the  employment needs and matching Syrian and Turkish citizens for available job opportunities
  • Document works, progress, learning and report on project activities and support Livelihoods Programme Manager to develop new programmes

Other:

  • Participating and representing Concern in related working groups, meetings etc.
  • Support monthly reporting process during  the agreed reporting cycle
  • Support and promote the standards outlined in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Concern Code of Conduct to their team, beneficiaries, and be committed to providing a safe working environment
  • Any other duties as assigned by Livelihoods Programme Manager

Minimum Education, Qualifications & Experience Required:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in community development, business administration, economics, social science  or related discipline
  • Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes, especially Word and Excel, and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping
  • Fluent in written and spoken Turkish and Arabic languages
  • Previous experience working in any of the government/ NGO/ private sector in Sanliurfa Province related to Livelihoods and Business Development.
  • Strong network and awareness of private sector in Sanliurfa Province
  • Advanced Communication skills
  • Technical knowledge of business registration and government services available for small businesses
  • Ability to work in a systematic and organized manner
  • Experience and knowledge of social cohesion
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative

Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • Have Excellent negotiations and diplomacy skills
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills in English are preferred
  • Are Commitment to humanitarian principles and values
  • Have High integrity and demonstrated ability to follow standards and policies
  • Are meticulous with attention to detail
  • Have the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Are adhere to the standards of conduct outlined in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Concern Code of Conduct
