ROLE PURPOSE:

The Women-Led Organizations (WLO) Platform Coordinator will play a key role in building a strong foundation for this new and vital initiative within Syrian civil society. This role is essential to guiding the platform through its foundational phase by supporting its members in establishing governance structures, forming strategic partnerships, and managing resources effectively. Working closely with platform members, the GBV AoR, and steering committees, the coordinator will foster collaboration, streamline decision-making, and help map out the presence of women-led organizations on the ground.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the primary point of contact between the platform's coordination committee, humanitarian actors, and donors.
  • Facilitate information exchange and enhance networking and collaboration opportunities among member organizations.
  • Organize regular platform meetings and ensure effective communication channels between committees and the general assembly, promoting adherence to the platform’s agreed code of conduct.
  • Advocate for the needs, priorities, and challenges of women-led organizations in relevant forums and groups according to the platform’s recommendations and internal regulations.
  • Ensure that women-led organizations have a voice in decision-making processes, with a focus on gender-related issues.
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities for technical support and capacity building for women-led organizations, including training in project management, proposal writing, and donor compliance, based on needs assessments aligned with member organizations.
  • Enhance the platform’s capacity to engage effectively with humanitarian mechanisms and funding opportunities.
  • Track the progress and activities of women-led organizations within the platform, ensuring their contributions and impacts are documented.
  • Prepare periodic reports highlighting achievements, challenges, and provide recommendations for improving the engagement of women-led organizations in humanitarian and development sectors.
  • Support women-led organizations in accessing funding through coordinating collective proposal submissions or advocating for direct funding streams for these organizations.
  • Build partnerships with donors and other stakeholders to enhance funding opportunities for women-led organizations.
  • Guide the development of the platform’s strategy and annual work plans in alignment with the needs and priorities of women-led organizations.
  • Promote innovations in gender equality and women’s empowerment in local communities.
  • Ensure the development and sustainability of operations according to the internal system proposed by member organizations, improving decision-making processes and suggesting effective coordination mechanisms.
  • Strengthen partnerships with international NGOs, UN agencies, and local authorities to support collaboration and mutual support for women-led organizations.
  • Ensure the integration of women-led organizations into broader humanitarian coordination mechanisms.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

Educational Background:

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, international relations, gender studies, or a related field, with a preference for candidates who have an advanced degree.

Professional Experience:

 

3-5 years of experience in coordination, management, or program implementation in the humanitarian or development sector, ideally focusing on gender equality or women’s empowerment.

Hands-on experience working with women-led organizations or in roles related to gender-based violence (GBV) or protection.

Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with humanitarian actors, donors, or UN agencies.

Technical Skills:

In-depth understanding of the Syrian humanitarian landscape, particularly the unique challenges and needs of women-led organizations.

Familiarity with proposal development, budgeting, and donor compliance processes.

Skilled in organizing and leading training sessions, capacity-building activities, and strategic planning initiatives.

Advocacy and Communication Skills:

Experience advocating for gender-related issues, women’s rights, or other cross-cutting themes in relevant forums and working groups.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Arabic and English, with a background in preparing reports and presentations for diverse audiences.
