Position Summary:

Translator will work directly with the Senior Project Officer / Case Management Team / Nutritionist / Head of Project to provide interpretation and translation services for client interviews and accompaniment to service points and authorities.

• Face-to-face interpretation:

  • Accompany Head of Office to all meetings with partners and authorities as an translator
  • Accompany other persons as required
  • Adapt language to a wide range of interlocutors to facilitate effective communication
  • Keep notes to be able to summarize content afterwards
• Translation:
  • Assure correct translation of official letters
  • Edit and proof-read texts to accurately reflect language
  • Convert written materials from one language to the other (concepts, brochures, web articles). Create a new text in the target language that reproduces content and style of the original.
  • Use dictionaries and glossaries for reference.
  • Facilitate effective communication between two parties that do not speak a similar language by converting one spoken or written language to Arabic or English/Turkish.
  • Accompany Syrian beneficiary to authorities, medical care and other institutions they need to get into contact to. Translate for Syrian beneficiaries in different cases so they can understand and communicate.
  • Convert written materials from one language into another such as concepts, brochures, web articles. Create a new text in the target language that reproduces to content and style of the original.
  • Edit and proofread text to accurately reflect language.
  • Interpret legal, medical terminology and colloquial language
  • Accompany Syrian beneficiaries and facilitate communication between receiving part and project team or institutions
  • Adapt a product or service for use in a different language and culture

Translator will work directly with the Head of Project and other team members.

In addition to the above, the Translator might be asked to carry out other duties requested by the Head of Project and other team members.

  Required Qualifications:      

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences
• Work Experience: Minimum 1 year professional experience in similar positions.
  • Experience in the humanitarian sector in Turkey is an advantage,
  • Knowledge of the Turkey refugee context (Syrian and non-Syrian) a distinct advantage.
  • Previous experience in translation and/or Interpretation is a distinct advantage
• Skills/knowledge: Attention to details, Good computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook at a minimum),
• Personality requirements: Good communication and strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments. Honest, hardworking and a self-motivated person able to work in a dynamic environment.
• Language Skills: Excellent working proficiency in Arabic and Turkish/English. Other languages (Kurdish, Farsi etc.) a distinct advantage.

The translator will be obliged to maintain confidentiality regarding all information obtained in the course of his/her work during the employment at Welthungerhilfe and thereafter.
