The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German federal enterprise with worldwide operations. We support the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We are also engaged in international education activities around the globe. Germany’s international cooperation with Turkey dates back to the 1960s. The Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Turkey signed an agreement on technical cooperation in 1970. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has maintained an office in Ankara since 1998. On behalf of the German Government and other donors like the EU, GIZ is currently supporting Turkey’s efforts to host approx. 3 mio. refugees. In addition, GIZ implements climate change and energy efficiency projects and is actively engaged in EU pre-accession assistance programmes (for more information, please see www.giz.de/turkey).

 

GIZ is currently looking to employ a qualified and reputable Junior Advisor on a full-time contract to support the Safeguarding the Claims of Syrian Refugees and IDPs for Housing, Land and Other Properties (HLP) Project in Gaziantep.

 

The Junior Advisor responsibilities and duties are stipulated below:

 

A. Responsibilities

The Junior Advisor provides support

  • the Director of the GIZ project “Safeguarding the Claims of Syrian Refugees and IDPs for Housing, Land and Other Properties (HLP)” in technical tasks and in carrying out overall project management
  • in communication with implementing partners, Syrian NGOs and other key actors.
  • in developing and implementing measures to compile existing property records and other legal documents of property registry offices
  • in developing and implementing measures to inform refugees and IDPs and to raise their awareness on the importance of documenting their HLP claims
  • in research and documentation of information on legislation, legal practice and violations of HLP rights in the context of the Syrian conflict  
  • in carrying out specific tasks in connection with knowledge management for the project

 

B. Required qualifications and experience

Qualifications

  • university degree in an area that is related to the HLP rights of refugees and IDPs (law, surveying, public administration, political sciences, social sciences, or similar)

 

Professional experience

  • Minimum of two years’ work experience

 

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Working knowledge of legal issues relevant for HLP rights
  • Practical experience in working with refugees and IDPs
  • native Arabic speaker and good English language skills
  • good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, database programmes)
  • experience of project management and research experience in an area related to the project’s requirements is desirable
  • familiar with GIZ planning, implementation and reporting procedures and their changes
  • familiar with other project components and GIZ-assisted measures, concepts and status of implementation and knows the corresponding experts and staff
  • able to represent the interest of the HLP project and always acts on its behalf
  • willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
