Shafak was officially established in 10-10-2013 (registration no. 27-016-129). It was founded during the early months of the Syrian Crisis in 2011. At its core, Shafak is a grassroots NGO that was formed by Syrians for Syrians, with the intent of addressing the needs of their life with dignity, equality and humanity with a focus on sustainability and autonomy.

Shafak is an impartial, independent, non-profit NGO that exists for the express purpose of providing humanitarian services to vulnerable people regardless of political or religious affiliations and on the long run to contribute to recover and rebuilding the society on freedom, justice and equality basis.

Role Purpose

Shafak is seeking a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project Manager who will lead the WASH projects by providing overall technical and management oversight to the ongoing projects.

Location:HQ/Gaziantep

Reports to: WASH projects manager

Key areas of accountability and responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the implementation and support of the WASH projects in line with the activity plan and time frame of project proposals and WASH standards and guidelines.
  • Manage the quality construction of all infrastructures, ensuring maintenance and sustainability.
  • Ensure that regular monitoring and evaluation assessments are conducted with reports being made.
  • Work towards the continual improvement of the processes and the technical implementation.
  • Ensure integration of beneficiary participation and accountability.
  • Ensure reporting of activities for internal and external reports.
  • Assess existing project(s) activities and recommend actions to be taken.
  • Input into the development of the WASH department strategy and WASH projects , new projects and donor proposals.
  • Support the WASH & Infrastructure Advisor in analysing former infrastructure and WASH projects and budgets in order to improve project and budget quality and procedures.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Environmental / Engineering.
  • Master’s degree in above related fields are preferred.
  • Management of multiple projects.
  • Experience in designing and putting bill of quantities, WASH facilities like toilet, bathing cubicles, water supply lines and hygiene promotion for affected people
  • Understands and have implemented water trucking and solid waste management and hygiene promotion methodologies in emergency settings
  • Demonstrated experience in managing WASH grants is preferred.
  • Experience in working on Bill of Quantities and design ( or rehabilitation) for water and sewage networks.
  • Experience of working with cross-functional teams.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English.
  • Working knowledge of English and ability to write reports in English.
  • Successful track record in project coordination.
  • Ability to manage a wide range of work assignments and changing priorities in high pressure and demanding environment
  • Strategic, creative and innovative thinking.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the NGO sector
  • Ability to work in high tension and high security risk situations and be able to adapt to rapidly changing contexts
  • Excellent time-management and prioritization
  • 1-3 years of experience focused in the management of WASH projects
  •  Experience in involving targeted communities to promote humanitarian response.
  • Turkish nationality is required.
