The Protection specialist is expected to perform the following duties:

Job Summary

Protection Specialist will oversee RET’s community-based protection programme including case management, specialized psychosocial support and all other protection activities. S/he will be responsible to facilitate coordination of protection activities, support planning, and collaborate with Program Manager to ensure quality implementation. S/he will support all staff through the provision of technical support, trainings and guidance by the help of Program Manager and ensure that staff implement and respect best-practices and international standards in protection mainstreaming. GBV Specialist will also follow GBV and Protection Working Groups regularly and support Program Manager to disseminate the information coming from the related working group(s).

 Qualifications and Experience Required

 We are searching for a Protection Specialist with the following qualifications:

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in working in international non-governmental organizations or UN institutions
• Having experience in supervising protection team
• Advanced Turkish and English language skills.
• At least Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, etc.)
• Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Human Rights, Gender or related technical fields will be advantage.
• Prior experience in working with refugees, non-Syrian refugees in particular.
• Strong knowledge of Humanitarian Principles, Protection framework, conflicts setting, IDPs, refugees and refugee issues in Turkey.
• Excellent skills and experience in research and reporting

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Program Planning

 Lead assessments to identify settlements of vulnerable groups in the catchment areas of the Project.

• Conduct protection needs assessments among the affected populations
• Map points of service for vulnerable individuals, and identify points of entry and support structures for reinforcement
• Analyse protection trends and develop / adjust program strategies to meet needs
• Contribute to program design and the preparation of future concept notes and proposals

 2. Program Implementation and Capacity Development

 Develop guidance, resources, and tools to enable RET staff to identify and address protection risks in the field.

• Provide guidance to the development of materials for awareness-raising on the various topics
• Identify the risks and mitigate the SGBV for prevention and protection in liaison with RET staff.
• Develop guides, manuals and informative printed and digital materials for the staff and the beneficiaries.
• Document lessons learnt and best practices by collecting information and coordinating with the field staff.
• Supervise and coach the social workers and psychologists.
• Conduct mapping and develop referral pathways in target locations by reaching out to and partner with relevant local actors
• Identify and reinforce existing support mechanisms and work closely with local and regional counterparts to ensure community buy-in and cultural appropriateness of activities
• Build capacity staff in the Project to offer professional and confidential services including referrals to SGBV survivors: developing a referral database, referral pathways, facilitation of contact between service provider and survivor, survivor consent to share information by using the Inter-Agency Referral Form
• Coordinate with national and local actors to strengthen support and information networks
• Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed
• Ensure participation from programme participants in program development, implementation, and evaluation and feedback mechanisms for accountability
• Conduct supervision visits to project sites to provide technical support for protection teams
• Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within RET and amongst beneficiaries served by RET.
• Any other duties related to the nature of the job as directed by the Management.
• To perform other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by supervisors in line with RET's strategic priorities and business needs, even if not specified in the job description.
