The project “Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Syria” (MHPSS), funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is supporting employment and capacity development for the staff of NGOs. The stand-alone project on MHPSS has been commissioned in 2020, seeking to improve selected mental health and psychosocial support services for internally displaced people and the local population in the context of acute violence in Syria. The programme is providing professional cross-sectoral on-the-job trainings on MHPSS in the health, education and social sector and supports partners to implement local MHPSS initiatives according to the specific needs of the different target groups. In addition, the programme fosters dialogue on psychosocial coping strategies and works towards mainstreaming MHPSS into other sectors.

 

 

A. Main Activities

  • Technical and conceptual planning and management of specific measures - primarily activities in North West Syria. 
  • Will be responsible for the content and the technical and organizational planning and implementation of MHPSS measures in North West Syria.
  • Coordinate and lead a local, community-based network to strengthen MHPSS services in North West Syria.
  • Drafting and subsequent monitoring of funding agreements with international and Syrian actors as well as local grants with local partners.
  • Networking with international and regional actors in the MHPSS context, e.g. the relevant United Nation (UN) cluster, WHO, ISAC and other international and regional organizations in the field of MHPSS.
  • Strengthening and promoting the Syrian partner network through training measures while taking international MHPSS standards (e.g. staff care, supervision) into account.
  • Integration of MHPSS-related content and strategies into the existing support services of other GIZ projects and other international actors 
  • Integration of MHPSS competencies and experience into the Syria portfolio as well as strengthening of GIZ knowledge management
  • Technical focus: Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Special Needs Rehabilitation (SNR)

 

 

B. Required qualifications, competencies, and experience

 

Education/Qualifications

  • Completed university degree (master’s or comparable degree) in psychology, education, or a related field; or a comparable qualification (further training along with a completed bachelor’s degree)
  • Good level of IT Skills (MS Office tools, etc)
  • Good teamwork skills
  • Business fluent in Arabic and English.

 

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years of professional experience with at least 3 years of specific experience in the field of MHPSS and North West Syria (NWS) with international and Syrian implementation partners
  • At least 5 years of professional experience with at least 3 years of specific experience in the area of psychosocial support in crisis/emergency settings
  • Experience in managing small projects and engaging with different stakeholders
  • Work experience in Health, Education, Protection, or a related field
  • Several years of experience in the development of MHPSS training concepts 
  • Experience as a trainer; experience in organizing and conducting technical trainings 
  • Gender Based Violence (GBV) and/or Special Needs Rehabilitation (SNR) knowledge would be an add value
