Background:

Global Communities’ Office of Humanitarian Assistance (OHA) has developed a strategy for the organization’s response to the Syria crisis, anchored in a field presence.  Specifically, OHA is responding directly in Syria, intensifying GC’s assistance to Syrian IDP’s. This is being carried out through an approach to programming where projects focus on the sustainability rather than relief delivery. Global Communities (GC) is a fully registered organization in Türkiye and are currently building its humanitarian response professionals in Türkiye.  

Global Communities Inc. Türkiye Temsilciliği is a fully registered organization in Türkiye and is currently building its humanitarian response professionals in Türkiye. Global Communities Inc. Türkiye Temsilciliği intends to hire a full-time Food Security & Livelihoods Assistant (SoW herein) to implement projects, while based in Gaziantep through humanitarian assistance programming. The FSL Assistant reports to the FSL Officer.  

Responsibilities:

  • Support FSL team in developing weekly and monthly wheat value chain activities plans, in coordination with partners and support departments.
  • Support FSL team in following up and tracking activities, initiating the community level assessments, beneficiaries’ selection including the design of relevant tools, following on the progress of wheat cultivation and track the distribution of the agriculture kit and support the team in developing the needed SOPs.
  • Maintain and update project files and administrative documents in coordination with IP, to document program progress, reports and success stories. Supporting program staff in submitting reports to the cluster system including 4&5Ws.
  • Support the supervisor in preparing and uploading beneficiaries’ lists on the system and in coordination with M&E team prepare applicable monitoring plan during project progress, and review PDMs and other relevant monitoring reports.
  • Coordinate with the partner’s team and other GC staff to provide timely for the bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports and any other required reports. Attend team, IP and organizational meetings as required and prepare agendas and meeting minutes.
  • Communicate with the field team in Syria daily to confirm the progress of activities as per the program plan.
  • Participate in coordination with local authorities and agricultural offices before and during the implementation of agricultural activities.
  • Support GC efforts on the wheat value chain activity (including agriculture inputs distribution and mill and bakeries rehabilitation) in AOO and conducting training for partners and beneficiaries both inside Syria and/or in Turkey. Contribute to developing agricultural brochures that are provided to the farmer during the training sessions and field days.
  • Ensure transparency in accounting, reporting, and coordinate with feedback mechanism teams to deal with complaints or issues related to Agriculture kit activities.
  • Support FSL field team in preparing and tracking the field staff weekly movements plan in coordination with operations and security teams.
  • Ability to conduct periodic field visits to Syria to follow up the activities progress.
  • Perform any other assignments by the supervisor.

Requirements (Essential):

  • Bachelor’s degree qualification in Agriculture Engineering is required,
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a comparable position (agriculture, wheat value chain) with an I/NGOs in the Syrian context.
  • Excellent knowledge of value chains, specifically the wheat value chain.
  • Understanding of project management principles and ability to assist in project coordination and administration.
  • Familiarity with digital data gathering platforms and software and experience in data analysis and management and monitoring activities using widely used statistical packages such as KoBo, Fulcrum…etc.
  • Strength in interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluent in Arabic and good written and oral communication skills in English.

  • Capacity to work closely with and support local Syrian partners and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills required, with the ability to work independently and be self-directed, as necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
