Job Description Project Manager
In the aftermath of two devastating earthquakes in Southeastern Turkey and Northwest Syria, humanitarian needs remain dire in affected areas. As remedial support to the most vulnerable communities affected by the earthquake, Solidar Suisse has been working with local organizations in Southeast Turkey and Northwest Syria. Solidar Suisse will implement a 12-month project with Shelter, Protection, and School Repair to alleviate the suffering and strengthen the resilience of the population affected by the earthquake in Jinderes, Northwest Syria by providing inclusive and durable solutions in collaboration with partner organizations.
The Project Manager, based in Northwest Syria and frequently visiting the project site in Jinderes, will support, guide, and monitor the project implemented by the local partner.
The possibility of an extension of the contract is based on funding.
Scope of the Role
Duty Station: NW Syria with frequent visits to Jinderes; Gaziantep and Mersin if security permits,
Duration: As soon as possible until the 30th of November 2025
Reports to: Response Representative in Gaziantep, Turkey.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks of the Role:
- Plan and implement all project activities within the scope of the project design and results framework together with the partner organization,
- Fully familiarize yourself and partners with the project’s design, objectives, activities, and result framework, and implement activities in line with these documents.
- Work closely with partner organizations, providing technical guidance and support to ensure alignment of activities with project objectives,
- Provide necessary capacity-building training for the partners in project implementation if needed,
- Support Response Representative with training and partner organizational development,
- In coordination with the Response Representative and MEAL Officer, ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the partners' progress against organizational development and capacity-building deliverables,
- Collaborate with the Financial & Admin Manager, and Response Representative to ensure efficient financial management for the project in compliance with Solidar Suisse and donor regulations,
- Provide support to partner organizations at the field level to trouble-shoot issues affecting program delivery,
- Ensure that the accountability mechanism is implemented according to the agreed principles and procedures,
- Coordinate with relevant local authorities and other stakeholders for the implementation of the project,
- Lead monitoring project’s expenditures in coordination with the Response Representative and Finance Manager,
- Ensure risks are appropriately managed, including financial, safety and security, programmatic and reputational risks at the local level,
- Represent the Solidar Suisse project’s publicity at the site level, including in working groups, coordination with other relevant stakeholders, and providing a direct link in communication between the field and the Response Representative,
- Regularly report to the Response Representative on project development, challenges, and other relevant matters, prepare reports for HQ and/or back donors,
- Perform any other related duties as required.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, shelter, or a related field.
Professional Experience
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in a similar position in a humanitarian context is required,
Professional Requirements
- Proven experience in shelter rehabilitation is crucial,
- Experience in the provision of PSS and protection is an advantage,
- Experience in the application of security measures required in a context such as north-west Syria,
- Previous experience in partnership management,
- Experience in implementing community-based activities in urban and rural areas.
- Experience in external relations with public authorities, community stakeholders, and civil society,
- Creative and innovative thinking
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail,
- Show initiative and actively assume responsibilities, able to plan and organize his/her work independently
- Proficiency in using software and MS Excel,
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
Languages
- Fluency in English and Arabic (written and spoken) are mandatory,
- Fluency in Kurdish is a strong asset.
