SRD Overview and Mandate

Syria Relief & Development (SRD) is a non-profit organization providing humanitarian aid to Syrians affected by violence, hunger, poverty, injury, and displacement. Our mission is to provide crisis humanitarian relief and plant the seeds of sustainable development for the people of Syria. Our Vision is to maintain humanitarian relief and mobilize resources to develop a comprehensive agenda for sustainable development in Syria, SRD offices in Gaziantep, Turkey, and NW Syria.

Job Summary:

  • The Protection/GBV Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating all gender-based violence (GBV) initiatives in Northwest Syria. This role involves representing SRD’s interests, planning and implementing GBV programs in collaboration with field teams and partners, and enhancing staff capacity to provide high-quality services to affected women and girls. The coordinator ensures compliance with donor requirements, and supports technical reporting. Additionally, the role includes overseeing community awareness campaigns, ensuring program quality and safety, and addressing any other tasks as assigned by the direct manager.

Duties & Responsibilitie

1. Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Actively represent SRD's policy and operational interests in gender-based violence (GBV) and protection response within Northwest Syria.
  • Coordinate with SRD project managers in Syria and Turkey to ensure the effective planning and implementation of the full GBV response and prevention package in primary healthcare centers (PHCs) and safe spaces, aligned with the project concept.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Field Protection Coordinator and Protection Program Manager in Turkey for daily coordination, and collaborate with the Senior Child Protection Officer and MHPSS Coordinator as necessary.
  • Coordinate with NGO partners on training and implementing the GBV program, offering support for the delivery of training sessions and technical assistance.
  • Work closely with other program teams, including health and nutrition to ensure an integrated approach to meeting the GBV needs of beneficiaries.

2. Execution and Monitoring

  • Supervise all GBV programs and teams across NW Syria.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and reporting, including regular reporting on protection and GBV activities

3. Communication and Reporting

  • Provide technical support to the GBV team to ensure timely and high-quality reporting, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and final reports. Ensure that reports align with data collected by the SRD team through the Kobo system.

4. Team Leadership and Development

  • Enhance the organizational and technical capacity of project staff to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality services to GBV survivors and women and girls at risk.
  • Train staff in GBV case management and survivor-centered approaches to support and empower survivors effectively.

5.  Representation and Initiative:

  • Actively represent SRD's operational interests in GBV at coordination meetings and with external stakeholders.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating community-based awareness and advocacy campaigns to promote GBV awareness and community involvement.

 6. Risk Management and Quality Assurance

  • Supervise all GBV programs to ensure they meet quality standards and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and reporting, including regular reporting on protection and GBV activities.

7. Safeguarding and PSEAH Responsibilities

Act as the primary focal point for receiving and following up on referred cases, ensuring appropriate action and support.

8. Flexibility and Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as needed to support the overall success of GBV programs..

Qualifications Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or relevant field.
  • A master's degree in these fields is an advantage.

Citizenship Requirement:

Turkish citizenship is mandatory

Required Work Experience:

  • Experience: At least 3 years of project coordination experience (GBV programs) within NW Syria context.

  • Experience in I/NGOs is essential.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills; conversant with best practices in humanitarian interventions, including adherence to international humanitarian standards and codes of conduct;

  • Extraordinary communication, interpersonal, and diplomacy skills.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision; self-motivated, well-organized, and results-driven; communicates effectively and positively with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to manage stress and meet competing priorities on time, producing high-quality outcomes;
  •   Strong organizational, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and PSEAH principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of data management and reporting systems.
  • Competency in using office suites, including Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the SRD.
  • Proficient in English and Arabic (writing –reading –speaking) - Turkish is desired.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to cross North West Syria upon needed.
